We took Kirstie to a show yesterday and got placed 6th which I'm happy with first time out and she behaved like she always went to shows. Anyway judges comments were mane and tail rubbed out so they let her down and she is a bit ribby, have been feeding twice a day plus haylage as she suddenly lost lots of weight when weather turned colder a few weeks ago. She also said she has a thick throat which makes her neck shorter. Is it a confirmation thing or can I do something to improve it. Have never done any showing before so need some guidance. Mary
In hand, she is three and we did a young stock class. It was more to educate her than anything, it was just the comment of her having a thick throat I didn't know if I could do something to improve it. I look at her and think she is perfect her and the miserable face she pulls. Mary
My crabbet boy has a thick neck the trick is to get them to stretch the neck to give the impression that the neck is longer (if that makes sense?) A lot of people use a bit of grass or i use a hat with my girl anything to catch their attention. Ill email you a couple of pictures of my boy to show you examples if that helps (quicker to email the pictures then post them on here)
Don't push your horse's head UP - get them to stretch long and low. That will improve the look of the neck.
Also, as she is only three, she may look a lot better next year - my youngster went through a 'look no neck' phase last winter, but now the neck has caught up with the rest of her, LOL!
