A few days ago my mother was contacted by a lady who as a young girl in 1977 bought an 13.3hh english showjumping pony from my mother. The mare was called Fanny II and she sucsessfully showjumped the mare for some years, and later on bred some showjumping ponies from this mare. Now Fanny II's grandchildren is jumping very sucsessfully in sweden and denmark. After some detective work in my mothers files we found a photo of Fanny II when just imported to sweden in 1977, on the backside it says : by Bennochy Rhu NPS/PBA ex Quantock Fanny by Waterfall PBA V ex Quantock mare (east side).
I tried to look up the breeding of Bennochyn Rhu but only found his dams breeding, but nothing about his sire Shandon (except *Twice pony of the year at Wembley*).
Did NPS/PBA register stallions and licensed them in the sixties even if the the sires breeding was unknown?
Any information about Shandon is welcome.

Here is the breeding of Rhu & Shandon, I remember them both, Shandon was white. Some interesting lines there and a few off springs for Rhu before he was cut. My own 14.2h had the 1931 Shaga Basa (Henry Wynmalen's) in her breeding and was the Chocolate colour, there is also both Arabs, Ruskov & Alderbarn in there too and lots of the famous Cusop, the local endurance team from that area, have just had a ride quite near to where Mr & Mrs Eckley's Cusop Stud was (is, I think its still run by their daughter)at Hay on Wye,next door to Mr & Mrs Wilf Davies's Chinook ponies, great riding and lovely ponies...Chocolate Cream was bred by one of our early Polo Pony men.
I'm sure we ought to be able to turn picture's up of there two ponies... and also more on the Hill ponies.

Leaving the link to Waterfall, we've reviewed him in the past, with his dam a New Forest pony. My notes on Amarantos say he also shows in the breeding line of Polyanthus (Polly Flinders).

In Shandon, Golden Cross,a Thoroughbred was also used in other good pony lines.

Goodness these names stir the memories. I remember these ponies but age won't bring back the details. I look forward to your posts to jog the memory.

By the way, Wilf and Val Davies of Chinook are still going strong and breeding. We had dinner with them just a week or two back.

Crickey, Weirton do I know you from the pony days. Just found the first pony that was my introduction to the Chinook ponies and Val & Wilf...Blythford Chinook in or around 1969..a lovely bay stallion and went on to win Pony of the Year. I used to meet Wilf while we were stood in the yearling classes showing and sometimes we were next to each other, up one and down one and chatting away... good times...

We were on the other side of the country in the 60s and didn't move west until 1975. I met Wilf in much the same circumstances as you and also through mutual friends.

Good times indeed.
