I have only ever owned two horses before Laddie.(one for 20 years, the other sadly only four. Both of them were beautiful, both kind but neither were over familair or friendly.Over the years every day at coming in time I would look for my horse...always he was the one at the farthest end of the field....always the last if the others came to the gate!I always trudged in wind and rain, hail and sleet to get my horse from the farthest point of the pasture.
For the past two weeks Laddie has been coming to my call - in fact on a couple of occasions he has been waiting for me. Today again he was grazing quietly when I went to get him but he cantered over whinnying as he saw me - what a delight!! I knew this little Arabian was special. .... hope it continues into the winter!!!!

Well I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Tamba does whinny when he sees me and he does come - but he walks all the way!

I guess he's saving his energy for his big rides.

My lot all come charging over the field as soon as they see or hear me. I have to creep around sometimes, so as to not set them off at night! Both mares and Madaba are always calling madly as they run. Its a wonderful feeling to be on the receiving end of a greeting like that!!

Yep Raife is usually waiting for me, Gandalf comes trotting over, and Alfie the mini doesn't bother at all but does come and meet my youngest daughter half way if she is with me.

Mine all come when they see me; they even know my car and come when I drive in after work. They then go off again as I have to get the stables ready but once I go to get them in they all come galloping over calling to me.

Arabs are very special, bless them!

Mine usually just walk over; however Roger has a really deep throaty whicker which is gorgeous (he does it every time). Chips doesn't call to me yet but always walks or sometimes trots over.

It's a lovely feeling!

My 2 are always stood by the gate chatting away to me if they know I am about. I think they are demanding food! When we have the bedroom window open in the summer they whinney in the morning to wake me up! Makes me realise how lucky I am to have them at home after years at livery yards!

I have to say it is lovely that you all have such great horses. I can identify with jassjmm though - a couple of times recently we have been up in the middle of the night - and guess who was awake and calling out??............if it happens again we too will have to creep about and hope for a moonlit night so that we don't have to put lights on and "disturb" someone!!!!

Oh there's hope for me yet then!! Honey used to give a big shout & come thundering over to me every time. She knew what time to expect me & if I was late...woe betide!
Sunny on the other hand considers that its wasted eating time & why come to me when he knows I go & 'collect' him !! He does concede & come the last few feet though & occasionally treats me & comes down to the gate. He's quite happy to be the last pony in the field..I think he just reckons more grass for him !

I have two arabs and a section A .They all whinney when they hear my car ,and start to walk over to yard to meet me.However the newest addition ,Bella ,(is a very strong learning curve for me)after totally evading me for 1st couple of weeks ,will now stand still while I walk to her! She seems just to do bear minimum, she makes me smile just like a naughty teenager! It'll take time but we're getting there.

My old boy Giz, would bellow if I used the loo in the night, as he could see the light come on! After I had lost him my neighbours commented how quiet it was without him, and how they could tell the time from his morning bellow!!!
Ali has always cantered up... but he is still very quiet, have only heard him whinney about 8 times in over a year!
such a lovely feeling when you see them charge over to you....even nicer when they stop!

Lovely isn't it

Shah would always canter up to me until one day when he stopped coming and I knew he was ready for retirement. Tuki would come if he could hear me (the field was on a hill and if the wind was blowing in the wrong direction he was deaf as a fence post). Mush nearly always comes, in the winter when he's hungry he gallops up, in the summer it's more of a lazy walk... At the moment my YO turns him in and he knows it's breakfast time and always stands by the gate ready to come in

My old ponies on the other hand would never come to call. One of them I quite often had to drag in...

Mine whinnies but doesnt move his feet, unless it is 'time' to come in in which case he canters towards me.If I turn up with the trailer he gallops in the other direction just in case I was prone to misinterpret his wishes.
Do you all feed your horses though? Spider is on full livery so me turning up doesnt mean 'food'. I do feed him if I happen to turn up at feeding time, but otherwise he equates me with work so I guess its surprising he'll be caught at all!

Arabi comes running as soon as he sees me, and he screams if I am not quick enough to bring him in, I often turn him out first thing in the winter for about an hour before I ride, and he still comes over to me even though he knows it means work bless him.

Arachnid, that sounds like Harley, he is very vocal, always shouts when he sees you, tells you off if you're late with his feed, and is at the gate if it is time to come in, but just as likely to run off in the other direction if it looks like work....but he gets very upset if one of the others goes and he doesn't. He can be a pain to load to leave the yard, but will load himself to come home...

No mine are on livery now, so I give them their tea before I go but they get fed by the staff as well...they have to be groomed/ridden first and usually mum give Pasha his tea... funnily enough Shesky won't let the staff catch him some times - even in the winter! A few times i've gone down there and he's still out as he won't be caught and they give him a feed straight away in the winter (as they get 3 feeds)... he knows he's my special boy and I LOVE that

Mine both come cantering over neighing madly whenever they see me, there is nothing as wonderful after a hard day at work They hear the jangle of the headcollars as I walk up the wood to catch them in so I never even have to call them, by the time I reach the gate they are there waiting

They are at home so yes, they get fed every night after they have come in but it is hours later after grooming and lessons.

Mine all come to the call at the gallop. I think this was because my dear old Asters always would call back - then run to the gate - so her daughter and grand-daughter now do the same - and so does my Arab mare Ishy . They neigh - then fly down to the gate - and mob me to come in. They do know there is a feed waiting in their stable for them - perhaps that is something to do with it !!!

Ahhh .... so glad for you .. great feeling isnt it ...

Sophia's the same ... one little noise from me (even if on road around the corner talking) she comes at break neck speed screaming all the way knocking over anyone/thing in the way ... swirling head if I make her wait ohhh 3 seconds ... dont think other non-arab owners appreciate her 'optimism' ... x

My two know the sound of my car and come up the field as soon as they hear it. Both are quite vocal and if i'm late they are already waiting at the gate for me..

In the winter i quite often turn them out first so i can muck out and then i ride afterwards. They both come over when i call them even if it means no feed and work instead (although i always have something nice in my pocket..)

One of my friends has to leave hers in until she is ready to ride as once they go out she can't get near them again until the evening and time to come in. If her daughter goes to get them in they run away...!
