I am SO heartened to read all these remarks- I WISH I had seen the event, but am SO GLAD that Etik for once got the result NOT ONLY FROM THE HORSE (he often gets that because he cares) BUT FROM THE JUDGES-that has NOT been so common lately and frankly it has looked and felt like "politics", against his stand on abuse. So WELL DONE ETIK< KUDA< FIONS JOSJE< AND JUDGES!!! And ESPECIALLY Fiona because again it takes a lot to handover a difficult horse (especially a difficult one) as you worry so much-AND IT TAKES A LOT THESE DAYS to be willing to do whats right POSSIBLY AT THE EXPENSE OF unfair political results. KEEP SPEAKING OUT WITH YOUR PRAISE EVERYONE< and keep fighting the bad stuff!!!! |

Eric, I read your article last year and because you were brave enough to put it in print I applauded you, it was nice to know that I wasn't imagining some of the things I had seen and was not mad!
Kuda certainly seemed to be having fun with you which was so nice to see...Shame one of our YOUNG male handlers has chosen to copy the wrong guys with the shanking and unnecessary whipping in the collecting area, so glad it wasn't one of mine that he had!! Perhaps he could come over to you for some training on how it can be done
You wrote that article even though you knew there might be repercussions, since reading it you have definitely changed my view of you and proven yourself to be not just a brilliant handler but a kind one. I never thought I would say this but on what I saw at Towerlands and on how I saw Kuda behaving with you I would be happy for you to handle a horse of mine
Well done for turning things around and good luck for Aachen |

Slightly off topic but can someone please point me in the direction of Erik's article? I did read it but would like to have another look.
Thanks.

I agree with everything everyone has said. I was lucky enough to go to Bluebell Arabians for a five day training course with Erik and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life, I will never forget it. Erik has such a wonderful way with all the horses he works with and treats them all as individuals, not just a horse as many do!! Erik is such a good person and his training is kind, just wish I could have stayed longer as I always feel there is so much more to learn from people like Erik. All his success is well deserved, I will never forget my experience at Bluebell Arabians! Kerry x x |

Fantastic to see horse and handler enjoying themselves. Made my Show. I too would have no qualms sending one of my horses to Erik. Carry on the good work. Superb result and well deserved. Keep flying the flag for kindness and true horsemanship. |

How lovely to read such positive posts about a handler... Way to go!!! Lets hope some of the young (and not so young) handlers saw you and Kuda, and perhaps the positive feedback here, this will hopefully influence others behaviour... Wish I had been there! |

Fiona and Eric
It was truly magical to see Kuda show off at Towerlands. I've watched him over the years and saw him lose his confidence indoors until he would not trot a stride. At Moorsele 2008 (I think) with Rod showing him he gave the best account of himself I'd seen - and then came Sunday...
I don't know your secret Eric but it was amazing, Kuda was having a ball and the only time he broke trot we heard you say "TROT!" and Kuda corrected himself without touching the leadline. It was absolutely fantastic to see.
Needless to say we cheered, and clapped and stamped, (knowing that it would not upset him as he was thoroughly enjoying himself)
One of the highlights of the show for me
Huge congratulations to all involved in Kuda's new-found confidence. Long may it continue - you must all be soooo proud

Hi all, I would just like to say a huge thankyou too all of you for your lovely comments about Erik and Kuda...We are all on one hell of an emotional journey and the fact that this experience has touched so many hearts fills me with a wonderful warm feeling..I do hope that the way this horse has been turned around by Erik and his fear being erased is ispirational to many other handlers... It broke my heart leaving bluebell and leaving my treasured black beauty, but my mind is filled with happiness and contentment knowing what safe hands he is in. I close my eyes and I relive the joy and happiness etched within kuda and Erik as they powered round the ring full of pride and love.. Thank you all so very much |

THANK YOU, Thank you. Thank you Eric, Fiona, Bluebell Arabians & Legacy Stud for all you have done for Kuda and I. It is amazing to see the change from the mentally and physically scarred horse who returned home to us from France and the one who enjoyed himself so much on Sunday. Kuda made my heart swell with pride and yes I shed a few tears, as did others.
Again, like Fiona, I missed him when he went to Legacy but I knew I was doing the right thing for him. He formed a wonderful bond with Fiona and gained confidence in the Ridden Ring and was BNC Ridden Stallion at Malvern last year.
Now thanks to Eric his confidence in the in hand ring has been restored as he showed us all on Sunday. What a fantastic result.
All this just goes to show what can happen when a good deed is done. A number of years ago Fiona and her friend Allison came to my assistance when my handler shanked Zircon Karismatique so hard that he went down on the gravel badly cutting his leg and she walked off and left me with him. From that day a friendship was formed which resulted in ZA Karis Ibn Azal going to Legacy to be backed and staying. He is another horse of whom I am immensely proud after his fantastic wins this year.Well done Fiona & Azal.

Hi Fiona,
I am so sorry I missed Kuda this weekend and I cant wait to see the DVD next time Im down.
Congratulations to all of you and especially Kuda who clearly had the time of his life. He is such a beautiful horse with a beautiful nature and after everything he has been through in his life he is still a pleasure to be around. I feel so fortunate to own one of his sons, although in truth he probably owns me. I love my boy dearly and that fantastic Kuda temperament has come right through- they are so alike and if he grows up to be half the horse his daddy is I will be delighted.
Congratulations Kuda, Fiona , Erik and all at Legacy and Bluebell.

I've just been reading the thread on the other forum, I was sad to see quite a few negative posts. Why do people have to try to take away the pleasure in something that is obviously so momentous in this horses life?

Hi Anne, the negative posts are from two people who werent there, dont know the horse and were commenting from a U tube video of when kuda first went in the ring when he was still a bit tense and nervous, it dosent show the magic of how Kuda transformed.....It is very sad when people try to spoil thing but hey we all saw what happened and nothing but nothing is going to take away the fantastic achievement of Erik and my black beauty and the wonderful journey they are on together, I for one am sooooo very very proud of both of them.. |

Some people make me sick!!! If people have nothing nice to say then they should say nothing at all!!!!!
Kuda was ill-treated in France, and that is putting it mildly, just look at the photo's!! If it wasn't for all the love, care and attention he has received since he came back he wouldn't be the well mannered and kind natured boy he is today!
I saw that horse do something I haven't seen for a long, long time, he really was enjoying himself in that arena, it was plain for everyone to see that he loved being with Erik and at NO TIME did he show any signs of being scared of his handler, unlike another horse I saw in the collecting ring before the class!!! Erik has worked miracles for Kuda to want to perform like that for him so well done again Erik!
Ignore what these people say Fiona, they know nothing and they really are not worth it, personally I wouldn't 'P' on them if they were on fire!!!

I saw Kuda last year, I don't really remember how he behaved, my first time at Towerlands, all the impressions and all.
But I did see Kuda this year, I saw Erik and I saw your reaction in the championship, Fiona. And what I saw was NOT abuse. Do not listen to jackarabians, cause he/she obviously wants us all to stop a horse from dead gallop with a whisper and loosening the reins. What I saw from Erik in the video I wouldn't even call shanking, but gentle tugging to get the horse down. I don't know you, and I don't know Erik. Last year I didn't have battery for the stallions classes, so no pictures of Kuda, but I do remember that he didn't make a huge impression on me back then. At Towerlands this year I found myself focusing on Kuda more than on any other horse in his class/championship. And that was not because I knew any background history or anything, it was because I liked what I saw! |

Thanks Mandy and you have such a way with words , Aremeriel its lovely to hear how much Kuda touched you this time at towerlandsand the impression he made...I really appreciate you both making the effort to support us in how wonderful Kuda looked with Erik....I don't understand why people have to try to sabotage good things that happen...Any way I am not paying any attention to it because I know how many hearts Kuda and Erik touched, true horse people who understand the enormous achievement realised by these two..I am still in shock about the amount of wonderful messages, phone calls and emails I have received it really is amazing the out pouring of love we have all received and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.... |

Dear Fiona I'd like to share a couple of pictures with you all that may touch other people in the way Kuda and you (and Erik) touched me at Towerlands this year. ;)
Also posting them on the other forum. ;) |
