Baz is coming on nicely with his life as ridden horse. I would like to do some Intro Dressage classes over winter, what do i need to wear and would prefer an out fit that will be ok to wear at Pre Novice ridden show next year too, I know nothing about Dressage so any info you want to share is welcome.

Ooh something I can help with

If you want just one outfit that you can do everything in, then I would go for tweed jacket (colour to suit your horse), cream/beige johds, shirt & tie.

BUT most people wear Navy/Black jackets, white breeches and white stocks at dressage.... soo the choice is yours!

You can wear a Navy jacket showing too, but not black or white breeches or stock!

Hope this helps?

Agree, for baby stuff you can just wear your novice showing clobber, just not too bling

Agree with the above , also remember your gloves for the dressage and they must be light coloured now, good luck and enjoy yourself

Hi, well done for doing the dressage.
There are 2 things to consider - the actual rules and current fashion/etiquette!

The actual rules for up to Advanced medium is conservative tweed or blue/black jacket with stock/tie, hat, breeches/jodhpurs plain white/cream/beige and light gloves. Boots must be plain black or brown, long or short, also acceptable to wear matching leather gaiters with short boots. There is nothing in the rules about when to wear a stock or tie etc which is where current fashion comes in!

Current fashion is - if a tweed, shirt and tie only, never a stock (although you occasionally see an eventer with a coloured stock). Never white breeches.

If blue/black jacket, white breeches (at all levels), stock (which is usually white/ivory, if you are really good you may be seen with a more blingy stock!).

Some people think that prelim/novice level, it is better to wear tweed but these days, most people wear blue/black.

Most people also wear a white saddlecloth rather than numnah. Absolute no-no is any coloured numnah/saddlecloth, girth etc other than white/black/brown, maybe grey so no reds etc.

Plain black/brown tack, must have noseband, can have a blingy browband but usually leather, rare to see a velvet "showing" browband.
As an arab, you don't need to plait but could, if you want, do a running plait along the crest.

If you are doing unaffiliated, whatever you wear for showing will be fine for dressage, so if you go for tweed/tie/beige breeches, you will be fine.

Hope this helps!
