Hi All, Still on the trail of the racing ponies from Sth. Wales that did so well flapping. I'm having difficulty finding any reference..books etc on these famous racing ponies from around 1925 ish. both Cigarette & Sigoretti are reported to have won with distinction in Camarthenshire in 1920's...Info Wanted.
In 1923 - 1929, there was a race course and pony racing under PONY TURF CLUB rules. with racing at these places.. Northolt. Sketty Park (Swansea) Shirley, Solihull, West Midlands untill 1953.
Does anyone know anyone who used to race ponies under these rules. Can you ask you Aunts & Uncles please. There must be records somewhere...

We have an old friend who used to be a jockey.He does visit on occasions but is almost 80 and is suffering from Parkinsons. I seem to think he has mentioned Cigarette on more than one occasion and he has many old stories to tell! When he visits next I shall press him for any details he has-although as I say he is not well so not sure when I will him. Will pm you with anything I can find out.
Thank You fingers crossed he visits and can remember Cigarette. In an old H & H I just got it says Cigarette was a legend in South Wales pony racing... I can't find any reference to her pony racing career Cheers Sue
