I turned my ex racer out into another field over the weekend and she was covered fly bites down her neck. I have turned her out in a lycra hood which is slightly small for her, but seems to be doing the job (although the eye holes are in such an odd place!) but I am considering getting her a Snuggy Hood, they look good on the website, but has anyone tried them?
She has a Rambo fly rug on at the moment but it's only a half neck, I was hoping to kill 2 (or 3 or 4) birds with one stone with the Snuggy Hood by stopping her rug rubbing her withers, having a neck cover and a fly mask in one, and keeping her neck warm in winter if she needs it.
I have a snuggy hood for my mare. They are great in the winter to stop the mud.
My mare has sweet-itch so needs to wear a rug that covers her whole body, neck and head. The snuggy hood rug and hood are good but i found they got damaged by the sun (bleached) which then caused the material to disintegrate and holes appeared. This was after about 2 years.
The boett rug (google the sweet-itch helpline) do one which i also have and i find the material on these much better (harder wearing).
