I thought Id start a little topic on horse/ rider heights. Im 5'11 and my connemarra is 14.2hh and it looks like my filly is going to make about 14.2 (I was planning on getting something a little bigger but I fell in love haha) Well anyway I dont think I look too bad on a 14.2 considering Im a giant! but would like to compare what I look like to everyone else! Me on Tilly

Well if I had heard you were 5'11 and riding a 14'2 I would have thought you would look too big, but the photos tell a different story. I got a lot of stick when I had my welsh x tb on a dressage yard - constantly being told I was too big - he is 14'1hh and very close coupled and I am 5'7", but he rides bigger. But the yard was full of short women riding huge horses, and the instructor made it very clear that she thought I could make a lot of money from selling him and buying something 'more suitable' from her , he is currently on loan to my cousin's daughter (who is actually the same height as me, but thinner). My mainly egyptian purebred mare is 15' 3hh, but our crabbet gelding rides bigger than her and he is 15hh.

Me on Lily 15.3hh

What a lovely pony!!
I have two horses: one full-up, chunky 14.3 PBA and one slightly smaller but not much less 14.2 arab. I'm 5'6" and lightweight (between 8 and 8 1/2 stone and that's as much info as you're getting!).
My two barely notice I'm there! My feet feel like they're dangling in thin air @ times but that's the only 'issue' (and it's a minor one). The problem I have is increasing the weight to make FEI minimum. |

I think you look fine my friend who is about 5'5 had a 14.1 Arab plenty tall enough for her, I remember some girl at our yard asked her when she was getting a new horse now she had out grown her pony, we did laugh she used to ride a 17.2 horse which was far too much for her, we tried to explain he was an Arab and not a child's pony but she just didn't get it, some people feel they have to ride the biggest horse they can find and over horse themselves. enjoy your ponies. |

I'm 5ft5 and 10 stone (ish). My arab mare, Miska, that I retired last year was 14.2 when I got her and about 14hh when I retired her. She shrunk and I grew
I now have Ettie a 14.2/3 (she won't stand still for a measuring stick) partbred. I also ride my mums horse, Ella, a 14.3, ISH.
Miska
Ettie
Ella
Ella feels a better size for me than Ettie, but when I was looking for a horse I couldn't get anything over 15hh, as my mum had to be able to ride the horse while I was at uni and she doesn't like anything bigger than 15hh. |

Am afraid I am a spud and can't get pics on here!!
But, I have a pure bred sleek and slender leggy gelding 16hh, and two pure bred mares of 15hh and 15.2hh both with a good spring of rib, I'm a tall 5'9 and don't look out of proportion on any of 'em!!!

I like this thread, though it makes me think I'm crazy!
Jack is 14.2-14.3hh and I'm 5'3 and 8st10lb ish - and I think I look too big on him!
But I've never worried about the weight, he's built for weight carrying (shame most of it's his at the moment!) |

6ft - on 15.3-16hh stallion...now riding SE daughter who is about the same height, but quite happy though more 'leggy' on smaller relations. Deep through the girth helps in their case!

I'm 5'2" and Ozzy is 14.2hh. I'm short in the leg so don't look to tall on him, but i'm chunky...!
My friend is about 5'6" and she rides Ozzy sometimes and she doesn't look big on him and another friend who has been schooling him is about 5'5".
