Hi, i have 2 arabs but am new to the showing world and need some help buying an inhand halter for my gelding. i have seen a nice 2nd hand one for sale but i just want to check it doesnt break any rules before i buy it as ive heard that these halters have to be 'backed' on the noseband? this one has beads on it so not sure if these types can be backed or not?? please help!! i dont know how to add a pic or i would show you all the bridle. is there a rule that these halters must be backed?

hey la koolio yes there are certain features the bridles must have if cable the nose band should be backed unless its a rolled bridle, you also need to make sure it has been strenght tested and that the ends have been capped if you pm i can recommend the best person to talk to for advice

It isn't just a matter of rules - it's consideration for your horse. A horse is just as tender over the nose as you are, so if you imagine what it would feel like if someone yanked some marbles against *your* nose, you will understand why having a backing on the noseband is so important

I echo what Minhe says. I used to make these halters and the beaded ones are very easy to put a backing on. Just make sure that the person doing it puts any knots on the top side and hides them behind the beads. If knots in the sewing are done of the back on the noseband then it will be just as painful as having no backing on at all. It is an easy task for any halter maker to do and shouldn't cost more than ten pounds or so.

If you haven't had it done by now, I can quite easily do backing on a beaded halter.
