I am going away for a few days on Sunday. The weather looks like sunny some days and heavy rain others. Magic hates rain and gets rain scald. Can't decide whether to leave a rain sheet on her or not. Its 22 degrees on the sunny days but heavy rain and 18 degrees on the wet days.
It is not unheard of for horses to get rainscald under rugs so in light of how warm in it I would be inclinded to leave off as you don't want her sweating under it. As its only a few days even if it does rain it shouldn't matter.
I remember being overprotective with an aged mare I was looking after and she sweated under her rainsheet and could have developed rainscald. OOps, Vera, we posted at same time!
I'd second what Vera & Goldenmane have said. The weather is so mild that popping a rug on a warm pone is providing the optimum conditions for rainscald. I did exactly the same thing one year Leave em off, if it rains they soon dry off naturally
Agree leave 'em off!! (As a fellow slave to one that is so accident prone he is positively made of glass, and loves to be rugged and positively HATES rain), especially with the weather as it is at the mo, if it does rain it won't be cold!!
I guess I'll leave rug off then. The field has no shelter but she will be brought in by my friend over night anyway. She is in a taped off fatty paddock in the main field.
