Right a bit of an odd question here!
There is a horse I've seen advertised locally to me and he is down as a PBA, but isn't registered with any breed society and he has a fancy name on his passport (which obviously means nothing!). What I wanted to know is, if I sent the AHS a section of his hair with the roots attached as you do when registering foals etc., would they be able to test it and establish a dam or sire from this? Or is that way too simple to even be logical?!

I think you need to know possible sires or dams so that they can compare the PBA DNA with the alleged dam or sire to see if they match. |

I thought as much! Oh well, I just wondered if it would be possible to find our who the sire or dam was by DNA testing. |

hmmm..... further complicated by only pure and anglos being dna'd - you'd need 1 parent to be AA or Arab. Or - if you know the parentage but he was never made official the AHS might have a counterfoil covering cert lodged with them for the year he was conceived. Worth a try. Could also work if you can prove the other part of his brreeding. i.e. if arab x welsh the WPCA might have a record? |

Thank you Mrs Vlacq, that is really helpful. I am going to look at this horse on Saturday, so I may not even like him, but I just thought I'd ask the question!
He's done well in showing classes, where he hasn't had to prove who he is, winning several and gaining a few championships. If he is that good though and I buy him, then I'd like to be able to try and research where he has come from and if possible establish a sire and dam. The current owner, was a bit vague and just said he wasn't registered with any breed society and his passport just had his show name on it "Khan's Midnight Dream", but she didn't know who gave it to him!!! Although he does look a bit like a PBA, I couldn't then figure out, how she could sell him as such without knowing fully how he's bred!! |
