If you know her registered name there is a possibility she will be on allbreedpedigree (google it to make a horse query), if she does come up then try the progeny button to see if she has any listed, but this will only work if someone has entered her details on the database already. |

A veterinary exam will tell you if she is a maiden (hymen will still be intact) Alternatively to save a vet bill, but perhaps not quite a guarantee....look under her at her teats. If they are very small and really tucked up close to her body....chances are she has not had a foal.
Usually when a mare has suckled a foal the teats are more elongated and let down slightly from her body. If she has had several foals, then teats more fleshy and often the skin looser around her teats
Hope this may help

She does "look" to of had foals, she has fairly large teats (definately much larger than my young maiden mare) i did a search on "allbreeds" and she does come up but no progency listed? |

I cant clearly see her teats as pic is dark in that area and she looks to be a bit fat.....but would think yes...she most probably has had a foal before. How old is she and how long have you owned her??
Babs www.SunrayAngloArabianStud.co.uk
PS...just enlarged the pics and now would say Yes...IMO she has definitely foaled before |

No progeny listed on allbreeds, but it doesn't necessarily mean she hasn't had a foal. |

Hi Bigmac, horses only appear on allbreeds when someone (ie the owner) puts them there, it is not obligatory. If she has registered offspring the AHS would presumably be able to help you (?!) |

Obviously she is on allbreeds but I cannot find her on Datasource. Is this correct spelling of her name as that is where you would find any purebred offspring?
Have found her through her father on Datasource. She was registered in France and there is no record of any offspring. |

Yes that is correct spelling of her name, so presumably she has no registered purebred offspring then? |

She did seem to be growing quite a belly but was on rich haylage at the time so put it down to a bit of a podgy hay belly, she then went on to hay and monitered a bit more how much she was having and i think the belly has since gone a bit, will attach a couple of pics the first 2 are from a few weeks back when i thought she was looking rather fat and then 2 from more recent and i think the belly has gone??

hmmmmm now it hadn't even occured to me but no i haven't noticed her in season, Laguna has been very much in season and stealing the limelight so i hadn't really given it much thought but she hasn't shown any obvious signs of being in season, she has just turned 21!! |

Just keep an eye on her. Usually when one mare comes into season, other field mares also do, especially as you say, you havn`t noticed her in season since you had her.

looking at her she looks like she could be in foal, she has the milk glands in front of the teats!, also she looks to have had foals before that belly looks to have held foals in the past as babs said keep an eye out |

gosh, you've got me worried now, maybe i'll have to try contacting the previous owner i know she lived out with a young coloured gelding but they did speak about "when he was gelded" so i don't know how long he'd been gelded!! |

Might be worth getting the vet to check her out - at least you'd know either way....it's sounding increasingly possible that you might have a 2 for the price of one there.... |
