what worm is this, it is thicker one end than the other and about 1.5 inches long
Amber was wormed 4 weeks ago with equest plus and passed one of these a couple of days later, she then passed one last week, then another tonight, all were dead, I think it is either a hook worm or round worm, should she be re-wormed even though the equest is supposed to last 12/14 weeks

it looks like a round worm to me. quiet common in youngsters. i would worm her with a milder wormer, as equest is brill for red worms but not always as good with the other worms. either an invermectin or strongid p. and the vet told me last time equest stays in the body for approx 2 weeks, when we had a heavy redworm burden. We wormed her with noromectin then, equest week later then two weeks later we wormed her with panacur five day, as she was still passing red worms every five daysish. all under vet advice.

I'd show the photo to your vet, and see what they advise. Our vets now advise us to give them samples of our individual horse's droppings, and then they tell us which wormers to use. The two eldest were clear, and the younger three needed invermectin this spring.

Edited to add - this vet's advice is because of increasing resistance to wormers due to overuse.

I's agree that it looks like round worm. I've just done both my two with Equimax which seems to kill everything including Tapeworm in one dose.

yep large roundworm i would say, most wormers should treat your horse for them but as this is tapeworm time equimax is probably the best one to use.

Thanks for the replies, am waiting for the vet to ring back as to re-worm her, but surely if they are dead then the wormer is doing its job, never had this happen before

Looks like the wormer has worked... otherwise this worm would still be happily feeding somewhere along the gut wall!

Had a worm count done on Friday, the count is very low and nothing to worry about, if she passes anything in about 5 weeks to re-worm, thanks for your comments
