We've bred or seen some unusual crosses over the years - what's the oddest part-bred-arab you've seen or owned??

I have an unusual cross - I think.
I have a registered PBA Arab stallion, who is also registered with IMHPS - International Miniature Horse and Pony Society.
He is half Falabella, 1/4 Arab and 1/4 Caspian. The colouring stated on his passports is Chocolate Buckskin with Spotted Influence. His sire is a blanket spotted appaloosa Limelights Zanzibar and his dam is Mystery at Darkhorse - I don't know what colour she is. He has full spotty characteristics, including spotty eyes, muzzle, bottom, man parts, stripy hooves, random spots all over and also a sort of light roaning over his quarters. Oh he also has a dorsal stripe.
He is also eligible to be registered as a PB Caspian, and PB Falabella and a British Spotted.

Cute mule !, it is a cross that I was going to mention and has done very well in endurance at high level eg Juanita in Australia.
I have seen Suffolk Punch x Arab and Cleveland Bay x Arab. It's not something that I really like the idea of to be honest ( sorry,JMO!). I think Arabs cross best with horses of more 'blood' Tbs, Iberians, Welsh Cobs and yes Caspians must be a lovely cross. We have a Caspian and he is GORGEOUS, like a little 10.2 hh Anglo who is a saint with children. Cheers Lisa

Arab on a Shire/TB made for a lovely hunter (visiting mare) - thankfully didn't have feather, but did have a great attitude, kind eye, good libs etc.... but it could have gone the other way! |

A friend of mine bred (un-intentionally!!) a shetland x arab. He was from one of her arab mares by her shetland stallion.........I guess where there is a will, there's a way! She discovered the stallion inn with this mare the following morning, after the deed was done so there was little she could do about it!
He was a cute foal and grew to 13hh eventually. He was a fab childrens pony and looked a bit like a slightly heavier welsh B. |

What with my allergies and all, i was looking at buying an American Curly horse colt, and was thinking that it would bring fab attributes covering an arab!? I was also very intrested at Le Trec at the time and thought this would make a super pony for it |

Well, wasn't the Arab crossed with everything in the past? He's there in the Welsh stud book/trakener/Quarter Horse/Morgan/ all the native breeds - - but maybe the Shetland is the exception!!!
That was the beginning of the Arab Horse Society to improve & create all the light horses in this country. Before that they were heavy, cold blooded war-horses - then plus Arab hot blood - created the warmblood ... didn't they??
I believe Peter Uptons' (not yet released book) might be going along these lines??? |

Hey, Highland X Arabs are a very popular endurance breed in Scotland. We have loads of friends with Highland X Arabs that are brilliant all rounders and endurance horses. Great cross in my opinion!

My first horse was 65% arab, 10% thoroughbred & 25% highland. She looked like a strong arab who went with an extra thick double winter coat. When she got her summer coat she would go from bay to roan, being virtually white from behind her saddle area, over her rump like a blanket. Superb horse (15.1), could do anything with her but definately not a plod. Used to joke that the only highland bit in her was her coat. Her granddams name was Altnaharra if there are any highland buffs out there who could tell me anything about her..... |

Highland x Arab is a lovely cross..........but of course there will always be exceptions like most cross breeds.
A friend of mine has breed several Hipo x Arabs (Arab Stallion to a Rhum bred HiPo mare) and all the offspring has been fab. |

The Blunts crossed Arabs on to Suffolks to get heavy hunters! I would have thought this was a cross that would work quite well as the Suffolk has a similar set of head and neck to many Arabs.

Trigger is arab cross shetland! His sire was the purebred Fangold and his mother was a piebald shetland. Hmmmmmmm love him to bits and boy could he jump and do endurance in his day. Shame he's an old man now - 30 this month. |
