After trawling though loads of adverts of horses for sale we went to view one today. Aghh - it was lame!!!! Looking for a pony for ppc games but they are like golddust. Why can't sellers check their horse is sound before selling! Back to looking at adverts again!

I'm sure pony club games are great fun, but although I can see the attraction in the competitions at HOYS, I never fail to wince when I see how the ponies are hauled around in the most desperate ways by children whose feet are nearly touching the ground!
One pony in one of the teams we watched a couple of years ago was so lame it could hardly walk, and was still included in all the final displays etc. I wondered how big its poor leg would have been the day after... |

Agree its not pleasant watching a rough rider but on the other-hand to watch a well-trained pony & rider is amazing:

The pony club now have weight restrictions for each size pony so you don't get the hugely over-sized riders on small ponies.

OMG what a moving video clip - it had me in tears :(
I remember when my girls were in Pony Club they used to do the mounted games but, as you say, a really good mounted games pony is like gold-dust!! |

I am awaiting a call back from my hay farmer his wife is into the PC and games big time and he told me the other day when I asked his advise, that he has a games/PC pony for sale, I dint ask how big he/she is, they are the Essex Hunt or Union im not sure they hold the camps on there land.
I shall private mail if the pony is the size you are looking for.

Agree that PPC ponies are like goldust. We have one who is now 28yrs and in retirement but teaching a 5yo girl how to stay on board. He was never, ever hauled around or over-mounted but he always knew and loved his 'job' and has taught many children the rules of the 'game' (bending was his forte, no need to touch his reins and he did it for fun!!!) I could have retired on the handful of ££££'s I was offered for him .
He is happy and healthy and that's all that matters. |

I must say the versatility of some ponies does give you a passion for horses for life. My sister and I had ponies (my first, Seaspray, was a 12hh Welsh) and we went over all sorts of country and played loads of games around our farm on them. Gymkhanas were great too - the place where those without show ponies could still have great success.

Blimey Kimzi....There's a blast from the past!!
Is Val still about? She was a lovely lady, her daughter Venitia used to be a very good rider from what I remember. I used to rent a yard of her husband Bob about 15 years ago, least said about him the better really!! What a small world
Hi Rosie, this is not going to help but a top Prince Philip Cup pony really is like finding hens teeth and if you do find a really good one it will cost you a small fortune!! Good luck in your search though xx |

We're not too bothered if the pony isn't trained up for ppc, but even finding a decent 13.2 to train up is proving so difficult!
You see an advert, ring up & ask the right questions, & then find out what the advert didn't say: it has sweet itch, has laminitis, been off work due to illness etc etc..... hopefully going to try another one next weekend, & that one is owned by a trainee vet so hopefully this one will be sound?
At the moment Michelle is training up Rosie, the mare in my avator pic, but a bit too big at 14.3 to vault on, but Rosie is loving it!
