My darling Asters was PTS yesterday - with her dear friend Honey (Boveycombe Barley). Asti had injured her back some time ago racing about in the field with her daughter and grand-daughter - and there was nothing that could be done due to her age - and the fact that her back was starting to dip. She had trouble getting to her feet in the stable one morning - so I knew the time had come. Honey had been unwell for some time and could not keep weight on despite enormous feeds. We gather it was quite likely to have been some form of cancer. They are both now free from pain.
My son and I are taking consolation from Asti's daughter Lara and grand-daughter Venessa- and Honey's daughter Japonica.
Im really sorry to hear that Carole I remember being in the ring with you both at the Palomino Southern back in 1994 when it poured with rain all day long ! RIP Asters & Honey XX
So sorry to hear that you have had to make this difficult decision. I am sure you must find a lot of comfort in having your other horses to ease the pain. RIP xxxx
So sorry to hear your news it is a decision that is not made lightly and it is something we can do for our beloved animals that we cannot for people. I also had to have my old mare and her son PTS at the same time and it took me a long time to get over it even though I knew I had done the right thing. Thinking of you at this sad time.
So sorry to hear your sad news Carole. I remember reading articles that you posted in the Saddlebred magazine about Astarte years ago. We also bumped into each other at the BPS championships and I know she was very special to you. RIP Astarte and Honey. Big hugs.
