my poor mare Leeka has a bad eye, she came in with an ulcer last tuesday which i've been treating, and suspected (sorry can't spell it) uvititus, which this morning has been confirmed, good news is the ulcer has nearly gone, bad news is she has very old scarring to her eye, lots going on, her tear ducts aren't draining to good either, despite flushing, she got lots of meds and has to stay on bute for 3 months at the moment and i got to watch her in case she gets colic. Her eye will be an ongoing process, but hopefully it won't get bad that she will have to have it removed.
Bless her she been such a good girl, had a new vet out today who was very good, and also had an arab mare herself.
Anyway would appreciate some get well wishes for my lovely Leeka, i'm sure they work!

Hi Nikki
Sorry to hear that you have a poorly Leeka. Nakeeta scratched her eye whilst out in the field about 5 years ago and that caused uvitus...my vet had to put a strong antibiotic and painkiller in her eye and then stitched her eye closed for 6 weeks. When he took the stitches out her eye was fine again but she had to where a mask that had removable mesh velcro pads over each eye and we took the pad off the good eye but kept the bad eye covered so as not to irritate the eye with sunlight etc. Her eye healed perfectly and has had no trouble since.
hopefully your girlie makes a quick recovery. xx |

Hope all goes well for Leeka Nikki. These things are a real worry and it must be uncomfortable for her - I bet the ulcer was agonising; I can't imagine how painful that must have been.
Wishing her well! |

thanks everyone, leeka is the most difficult mare i have ever had, but she's is being such a star, she is putting her head to the side to put the drops and creme in, and she's never been the sort to like too much affection, but now she's having a fuss and hugs and is loving it. I've had her just over 2 years now, and it's nice to know that i've finally got that bond with her and she trusts me enough, she thinks and fretts too much for her own good. She'll prob bite me tonight!LOL

A friend I used to work for had a horse with the same condition, his eye healed up completely without any problems, she stitched a pad into a fly mask to protect it from sunlight so he could still go out in the field. I hope she gets well soon. x |

Get well soon Leeka. I know your anguish Nikki. I have a poorly one too at the mo. I have spent most of the night worrying about him, even made my OH stop at the yard first thing, on his way to work to check he was ok. Bless him. |
