Has anyone had a lesson with him?
Tentatively booked a place on a clinic with him as want to start venturing out to different venues before our competition debut and just wondered what he is like x

Yes indeed!! He's a wonderful chap.
We met at a lunging and long lining demo I was taking part in with Dennis. I really liked him and his style of commentary and teaching. He can pull you apart but not make you feel like an idiot, if that makes sense. And always end on a high note.
When you have a formal lesson with him he will be dressed in full riding gear, including hat and gloves..........
If you have an informal lesson with him he will look like this!!!
Its been 3 years since we've had a lesson but he should remember us. Bobby Allison (now Hayler - step dad is Paul Hayler!!!) was a star pupil of his and she was riding Dennis at the time.

How did your lesson go?
Dennis had a lesson with Robert today. He didn't recognise him straight away, he said 'he's so white now'!!! Will be having another next month , shame he's only around once a month. |

It was really good thanks Vera He sussed us out straight away and had Shesky springing about the school like a super star dressage pony in no time at all
Haven't had a lesson with him since as I know have a regular trainer, but wouldn't hesitate to have a lesson with him again |

I said to Mandy (the lady riding him) that I should have taken my camera. Robert was so complimentary I was bursting with pride. Of course it helped that she is an medium advanced dressage rider!!! She can make a shetland pony look good!
We can't overdo it at the moment because his back muscles need building up. He's had a lot of physio and he had realise that his back doesn't hurt any more but he's improving leaps and bounds now.
Sadly I've only got Mandy until she finds herself another competition horse but I get the impression she is enjoying riding him.

I grew up with that too and always thought it was an expression to say something is fake/dodgy? i.e. fake as a 9 bob note because there is no such thing? A 10 bob note would be 10 shillings? |

Well he isn't a fake!! I recall hearing my mother describing all sorts of things as 'queer as a 9 bob note'. I just took it to mean out of the ordinary. |

I remember now the exact phrase is BENT AS A 9 BOB NOTE - it means bent as in dodgy not bent as in gay |

I'm going to amend my original entry as I certainly did not mean to imply there is anything dodgy about Robert.
In fact I think its marvelous that he will give lessons to us mere mortals. A lot of top trainers only train when you've reached a certain standard but Robert will teach novices. |

Lol Vera i'm sure no one thought that! I didn't!
I agree - it's great that he gives up his time to teach us mere mortals - sure he earns more form normal lessons that what he charges our RC! |

Tell me about it! I used to pay £40 three years ago for a private lesson, whereas £21 through the Riding Club is a bargain. |
