It was back in early October I last posted a bit of information about Shah Royle, (by The Shah), still being alive, at 33 years old. Sadly, on the morning of Christmas Eve he was quietly put to sleep in his stable as we sat with him. I feel Shah had almost taken the decision out of our hands and made it himself. I had often said, over the past couple of years, despite Shah looking his age, if he eats well, and can still take himself to the field in the morning, and back to the stable at night, and enjoy watching the other horses, particularly the mares, he is enjoying life. A few days before he had gone off his food, and that morning he refused to get up, and we knew the time had come. It was a somewhat sad Christmas without Shah, but there is comfort in the fact that he had reached a great age, and had spent virtually all of his life in the same home, where he could see everything that went on from his field or stable. Shah is now burried in his field, where we would like to think he still rules the roost!

Sharing your sorrow at losing your boy but what a lucky horse to have spent most of his life in one home with the most caring of owners, you did the best for him as you know. I hope the memories of his long life with you will soon be a comfort to you. X |

A sad, but beautiful post. Shah obviously had a wonderful, long life with you. You gave him the greatest gift of 'letting him go' at the right time, with no suffering.
So sorry for your loss RIP Shah Royal |

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.
You did the best possible thing for him by allowing him to go when he chose - he kept his dignity and did not suffer.
Hugs to you all x |

So very sad but it sounds like he had the most wonderful life with you over many years. My girl is coming 32 and i feel exactly the same as you did, as long as they seem contented you go with them, but it is still so very very sad when that time comes and you loose your special friend.
RIP Shah Royle.xxx |

I am deeply sorry to read that you magnificent lad has passed away. His sire was truly one of the great ones and I am sure his son was just as magnificent. As the others have said, how wonderful it was that he shared so long with you, so many horses never have the security of a permanent home. I am sure life is sad and empty for you now, but in time I hope the memories you made together bring smiles and lighten your heart. R.I.P. Shah Royle. Run free with the Angels. |

So very sorry to hear this - I remember him as a handsome young lad and know he must have been a great friend to you. I am glad he went this way, with dignity and in peace. My Shah granddaughter went the same way New Year's Eve 2008. Remember him always.

So very sorry to hear of the sad loss of your beloved old Friend. Many years you have shared together and how lucky are you to have been owned by such a noble gentleman. Rest peacefully Shah as you keep watch over the ladies on the other side of Rainbow Bridge
He leaves you with many cherished memories which I`m sure with the passing of time, will bring back the smiles, as you reminisce on the wonderful times you have shared together
