I would just like to wish Mellisa Cox all the best with Eddie (Elmdale Eduardo). On the third attempt after problems with the weather and a lorry breakdown he finally made it to his new home in Essex! He was becoming known as Eddie the boomerang as he kept coming back!!! I will miss his cheeky exploits but Mellisa is going to keep me informed of his progress. Hopefully his new brother or sister due in May will prove as lovely as he was

Hi Everyone, and yes kim i did have a bit of a cry he was such a character it is so strange not having him about today! Mellisa just fell instantly in love with him when she met him and i knew that she was the right person for him. Mellisa has not joined the forum yet but i will forward the details to her and hopefully she can keep you informed of Eddie`s progress. Babs i am getting a wee bit excited now as i can feel the new edling haveing a wee kick about already!!! Firstly i hope to have a healthy foal and a healthy mare, then it would be nice to have a foal as lovely as Eddie (that will take some beating) and lastly if it is a filly i will...... |

Hi Melissa!
OMG how funny ! - I live in Great Wakering too!!!!! I have 4 pure breds which we keep just down the road from Barling Hall (THe Youngs) at Roach Farm in Mucking Hall Road.
I have a 10 year old gelding - Aja Ben Rajah who has been to Hoys twice and is ridden to perfection by Clare Fitch - although we hope that my daughter will do more this year with him, I also have a 10 year old mare Kizzarlia who we show but hope to go in foal this year, another 4 year old mare who will go out under saddle this year all being well and a 6 month weanling by Vervaldee who we hope to show in hand
Would be lovely to meet up and have a horsey chat!!! Welcome and keep us updated on Eddie - is he your first horse?

Hi Loulou, well it is a small world, how big is this website and cannot believe I have met someone that lives down the road!!!!! Eddie is not my first horse, my mum and I show riding pony youngstock in hand, which we have done for years. I owned and showed Barkway Overture, who sired The HOYS champion 2009 Childrens riding pony Diptford Amazing Grace, we sold him to the Diptford stud when he was a yearling. My mum currently has a Waltza youngster to make 13.2HH, I also have a Bardwell Filly, to make 13.2HH, she is for sale now as my daughter has lost interest, so I decided that I wanted something for me to show in hand then eventually ride, thats the reason why I bought Eddie, as he will be the last horse I get now, as I get fed up with keeping our ponies until they are 3 then have to sell them on, as we have no one to ride them. Loulou if you know of anyone that may be interested in the 3 year old let me know as she must go as I have not got the time to see to 2 horses, keep a part time job and look after a family!!!!!! I can send you her details,if you need them?
Do you have children that go to Wakering? Will look at for you at the shows

Hi Melissa and Caryn!
I know where you are too Caryn!!! - you're at Hillary Chapman's old place I believe - im good friends with Katie Cotgrove's mum who owns Tarn and also know Louise who owns Merlin really well too - she left our yard with Sara who owned Charlie (that was so sad) and I used to do both on livery when they were at Roach! Very small place.
Melissa - how old are your children? - My middle one Dhillon goes to Barling Magna and is 6 but I know lots of children at Wakering! My eldest is 15 and she is doing the riding (I am extremely lucky as she absolutely loves it - it is everything to her) and hope that she carrys it on and doesn't get into boys!!!! - Will def have to meet up at shows or around!
Bet you're loving this weather - its bad enough going down the road to do the horses but Rochford - where are you stabled - are you near The Lawn?
Take care in this weather Traceyx |

Hi Tracey, it is a small world! I've been at Pulpits for over 30 years now, now run very ably by Hilary's sister and brother in law.
Yes, Merlin/Louise are with us now (Merlin's first winter out), Katie's Tarn is actually Kharidian's (aka Roger) nephew as he is out of a mare who is half-sister to Roger (both by Prince Sadik) and I hacked out with Katie as "nanny" when she backed him....she's a fair-weather rider and doesn't do much except spring/summer. Poor Sara - it was such a shock that Charlie broke his leg like that.

Hi Tracey and Caryn, Another Essex girl excellent!!!! Tracey, I keep our horses at MeadowBrook Farm, which is opposite where the old Rochford hospital use to be, we have been there 9 years, we rent a large field and stables off them as the rest of the yard are showjumpers, so ours can go out on their own. Have had to pay for additional livery for the one we have for sale as we only have two stables, so she really needs to go!!
Snow in Rochford is worse then in Wakering, god I hope I can get down there tomorrow!!!! Tracey, Ella my daughter is 9 years going on 15!!!!!!!
Verena, when I came up to see Eddie and I showed you those pictures of the black colt that was Barkway Overture, never quite had a showing season quite like the one I had with him, he was very special.

Very small world!!!
Will keep my ears open if anyone is looking for a youngster. This is very random but do Meadowbrook sell ponies? Just that I know there is somewhere in Rochford that sells ponies on for children and thought it was there - a pony on the yard came from round that area - his name is Chocolate and they used to jump him! A cheeky little 12hh pony - ring any bells?
Traceyx
Edited to add - Verena - there is a very nice cosy pub - THe rose Inn down the road - can imagine us all cuddled up talking horses!
We do have a few pubs in the village (which is basically a High Street!) with 4 pubs in it - gosh they would think we were all drinker!!! |

Mellisa, I ride past Meadowbrook regularly when I hack down Ironwell Lane - so that's where the gorgeous Eddie is living now!
Caryn vjc - Rochford has almost more pubs than shops - 7 or 8 I think! |

Hi Caryn, Yes Eddie is stabled at Meadowbrook Farm, we normally take all our youngsters down that lane to educate them with the bikes, dogs and mad children!!!!! So you will probably see Eddie and I out walking, when the weather clears up, don't know when that will be.
Tracey, Re: Meadowbrook farm selling ponies, yes they mostly sell jumpers, they advertise in the Essex Rider, don't know too much about it,as tend not too see to many people up yard as everyone tends to thier horses at different times, but they do sell quite a lot of ponies.
Verena, not to worry about not realising the ponies name, we were too busy gassing about all sorts of things!!! I was not snowed in today, the roads in wakering were the worse, once I got to Rochford all roads were clear, fields though are really bad, hopefully as we have had rain today and it looks like its melting, but I will not speak too soon!!!!!

Emma B, I bought my first horse, Shiloh, from the farm behind the Royal Oak! This was in 1979 when it was owned by the Hurst family, old man Hurst had bought a coloured TBx foal for his teenaged granddaughter but by the time he was old enough to back she was into boys instead and I bought him as a very fat 7 year old - the only reason he was for sale is that he was SO fat and had a bad reputation (undeserved) that after he would not load in the lorry to go for meat someone told my YO who said it was an omen! I owned him for 26 years until he was pts at the age of 33.
