As the days go on I'm discovering so many things that ARE DIFFICULT for people with only one hand. The worst thing so far has been putting on my bra! I HOWLED LAUGHING YESTERDAy when i had to devise a way of fastening the bloody thing. eventually i worked out that if i lay on the bed and anchored the eye end with my cast i could fasten the hooks but it was as bad as a bush tucker challenge. What a good job i have strong thighs! i am gripping jars between them. Isobel wanted a drnk in her baby cup with the lid, it is difficult with two hands but practically impossible with one ! thighs to the rescue i gripped the cup as i twisted the lid. Trying to tie the baby's dressing gown cord was inventive too. i used my teeth as a second hand. she needed another drink soon after 'mama' she said 'its easy just grip the cup between your teeth and twist it with your legs mama' the mind boggles!!!

Sorry, I shouldn't laugh, but I have images of you writhing about on the bed, contorting yourself.....!
If it makes you feel slightly less badly done to, spare a thought for my colleague - he slipped on the ice yesterday and reportedly broke BOTH wrists. Really nice guy, I feel so sorry for him. |

| i'd shoot myself!imagine showering ? had to get friend to tie a carrier bag on arm and sqeeze shampoo into my hand. |

| I broke my elbow a few years ago, before my daughter could walk and was discussing how I would manage with her when she just got up and walked! She was just about sorted but the bra thing was tricky as were jars and brushing my teeth, I am right handed and broke my right elbow, try doing your teeth with your other hand it's almost impossible. Good luck. |

| i came in tonight to find my caravan gas was frozen. after a few tears i pulled myself together and found my electric kettle and boiled to defrost the gas pipes. in the teeth of a blizard i lagged the cylinder and hey presto! i got the fire and cooker working. i decided to grill bacon and sausage and open beans....hmmm not a ring pull ...nothing else for it i had to wrap a pot towel around the tin opener and using my teeth managed to open them. next was cracking the egg that was easy i nestled it in a spoon and bashed it! so heater on and fed settling down to a night of tv and AL. thinking of writing a book ' the diary of a one-armed woman' by lucky walters. |
