Does anyone know of an Alan Prothero who used to live at Coed Hirgan Farm in Tredegar?? He used to breed arabs and I have one of his by the name of Perugee. He's by a stallion called Ventican. I'm finding it very hard to get any info and the woman I bought him from can only tell me that he came from a dealer. I would like to find out a little more about him. Can anyone help????

Hi, if its Alan Prothero that I know he was a very known Arabian breeder, unfortunetly he passed a way a few years ago.
He owned the world famous Carmargue I didnt know him really well I only met him a few times but I am sure there are plenty of people who knew him very weel and his horses that could fill you in.
He owned and bred some beautiful arabians. he ended up living in Oswestry after he left Harrogate but I think he was origianlly from Wales.

full sister Pretense born 2004 bred by Sue Richards.
dam Prestance gr mare 1988 by Marsianin (by Aswan) x Princessa who was by Podsnejnik bred by EN Pepe.
The dam Prestance was imported to UK by Shirley Watts in 1992.
Prestance is also the dam of Pikita by Piechur and Applauz by Arazi. |

| I own Northash Pharoah who was owned by Alun from a foal till he was 4 years,last time i had contact with Alun was last year & he was selling alot of his horses due to seperating with his wife, i did have a mobile number for him & will see if i can get it for you (its on my old mobile but its decidedly tempermental as to whether it works or not). Will PM you if i can get it. |

Thanks to Bridie for the info. I have done quite a lot of research into my lads pedigree. It would appear that he has some fab horses in his lines, mostly from Tersk. I have also spoken to Alan Prothero. There were indeed 2 of them! The one with Carmargue has sadly passed away, but the 1 who bred my lad is very much alive and still has some of his stock, although as navaho621 has said, he did reduce his numbers a year ago. Perugee has aparently gone from dealer to dealer and was in an emaciated state when bought by the girl that I got him from. He has also been gelded during the past year and I am trying to find out when and by whom?? Was worried that he was a rig!!! but am hoping its just his hormones settling. He's a beautiful looking boy, but quite aloof which I guess is due to his recent past....poor thing....don't understand how people can be so cruel!!!! |

| Just an update. Perugee (now know as Ollie) has settled really well. He was quite head shy, especially around his left ear which has been a bit difficult (I believe that dealers sometimes twitch the ears!!!!) and given his past I can only guess thats whats happened! Has made it difficult with bridles but I've found that leaving out the brow band does the trick. He's settled really well and I can do more or less anything with him now. Love him to bits and looking forward to getting on adn riding him. Took his first hot shoeing without any fuss, now for backing but I think he'll just take it in his stride.Soooooooooo excited. Watch this space xx |

| hi dizzy mare, i wondered if you still had any contact details for alan prothero, I've got a 6 yo unregistered boy who was bred by alan and was trying to find out some info of where the dam and sire went to when he sold his stock off, as i'm grasping at straws to see if there's anyway i could get him registered. many thanks |
