I need some advice on saddles. My boy Tor (Sheykh Obeyd) has high withers and a little bit of a dipped back. The first saddler didn't fit the saddle wide enough and you guessed it, the saddle slipped up his neck and luckily I wasn't injured (managed to bale after the third buck) . The senior saddler came out fitted a wider saddle which was ok until he developed muscle etc. A treeless saddle company came out and stated he had back damage from the treed saddle and it has affected him as now hates having a saddle put on. I have started riding him in a bareback pad and he works so well in it. SO im thinking of going treeless, but the one I like is so expensive. I was wondering if anyone uses a Ghost or Barefoot or any other make and would like to share their experiences with me. Thanks

Hi Zalah,
Whereabouts in Scotland are you? The saddler I use is an excellent Master Saddler, based in the Scorttish Borders, and is very experienced in fitting saddles on Arabs (he does all my herd and one of them is Sheykh Obeyd line). I'll PM you his website. |

I use a Barefoot on all of my pure breds and it is great!

I would recommend the Ghost simply because of it's adjustability. When I was looking for a treeless saddle, the lady who is an agent for them in the UK was very helpful and I got to know her through my search for treeless. Unfortunately I couldnt afford to spend that much at the time but I know if I could have it would have saved a lot of hassle.
Freddie was quite flat backed with withers and altho we both loved treeless, the majority flew up his neck. My friend bought a cheap Robinsons Requisite Treeless from ebay and was delighted with it. She suggested I try it and I was amazed how comfy it was, how much Freddie liked it and it stayed put. There was a special offer at the time and I bought a brand new one with the pad for £190 from Robinsons. I only had it a couple of months before I lost him but Treeless was definately the way for us. The Requisite is very similar to the Torsion and is very well made but a lot less money. It would be worth a chat to an agent for the Ghost so that you could learn a little more about them. Lexi is the name of the person I spoke with and I know you will find her very helpful. That way you could decide if it was worth having one on Trial. Or perhaps if you think it may be worth a go, order the Requisite and as long as you are careful, you could return it if it wasnt suitable?

Hi all  sorry yet again for not being online. Just moved my boy to a new yard with an indoor school so yes ...you guessed it we've been working loads. We are borrowing a bareback pad at the mo and he's never gone better. Thanks for all your suggestions and help. Have a great xmas |
