Feel bad putting these up with the Buffy thread still so uncertain but it has made me feel so grateful and sad at the same time if that makes any sense at all.
So here are a couple of pics taken in the last couple of weeks, I can't believe how much he has grown ! K is dropping a bit of weight as she always does in winter so I'm stuffing her to the gunnels with good food and hay and guess will have to start the dreaded weaning in the not too distant future .

Oooohhhh Jen, he is still a very handsome young man
They grow like weeds dont they!! Dexter is huge now, he has been gelded and will be weaned in a couple of weeks
You still 'broody'? I really want to do it again... Its so lovely having a baby to drool over. I can see me ending up over-run with horses before too long! Between Mum and I, we now have 9...

Ah thank you girls!
I would absolutely love to do it again Kate but apart from the practicalities and expense of keeping 3 horses at livery, I have a really dodgy arm and am struggling to do 2 of them on DIY .
It was such a magical experience but I was so stunned by the whole thing that I didn't take it in really so would love to do it again and feel a bit more confident of what was going on!
I was going to have him gelded before the mud set in but the vet couldn't find anything to remove ! He's getting feisty it has to be said, I do wonder what on earth I have done some mornings. K is so easy and I know her so well, did you feel the same Joanna when you started with Ishara? Sort of the same thing isn't it, having a new horse to get to know. |

He's gorgeous!
Just a thought - we only homebred one, and our mare weaned him herself when she decided she'd had enough (when he was about 8 months old) |

Yes I know exactly what you mean Jen it is definately daunting starting all over with a new one but I have to say now i've got beyond that I can't imagine what I was worried about. You will have such fun with him and the pleasure will far outweigh anyting else i'm sure |

Wowzers! He's gorgeous! Mum is lovely too
Photos to be proud of and I bet he is even more handsome in the flesh (if at all possible). He certainly has presence about him....
I agree with Callisto, let mum decide when it is time to wean. Less stress and worry for everyone involved |

Nikki he hasn't got anything to chop off at the moment so he's safe for now !
As for the weaning, one of the other liveries is after the foaling box and would like me to do it the 'quick' way but I'm steadfast and will do it when THEY are well and truly ready. They ate breakfast in separate boxes this morning (next to each other) and were both fine. Back together in the field now. I'm not even really bothered about weaning him at all as they will both stay with me forever (all things being equal) I just need to be able to take her out for the odd hack and know he will be happy to be left for an hour or so. They will be in the same field together so things will pretty much bumble along as they are.
Eventually I hope he will go to the lovely Roseanne (if she still wants him ) to be backed but that is a loooooonnnnggg way off yet ! |

Ah thank you!
Tell the truth I'm not sure what to do with him when he gets a bit older. The yard I'm at is a stud farm but all their youngsters are at least a year old and in an established herd out at the back of the farm. If he just stays in with K he has her and a 26year old pony as playmates and to be honest they ain't much fun for him!
I want to keep him with me, but at the same time I feel he would really benefit from being in a bigger, younger herd to learn all the rules and get put in his place a bit (K and the granny mare let him get away with murder).
I would love to show him but am scared to death of that sort of thing, so maybe he needs to go to someone who could do all that for me? There is lots of food for thought over the long winter months for sure ! |
