Had a funny lump turn up on Mush's side about a week ago now. It's not on the saddle line, but on top of his ribs. I'd not had the saddle on him for a week so couldn't be related to that. There are no external signs of fighting or biting in the field. The rugs are intact, there's nothing inside the rugs that could have *****ed him. I've added a liner in case it was the turnout rug but made no difference. The hair is not rubbed. It's only one lump and doesn't look like an allergic or stress reaction (normally more than one lump, am I right?).
I've been massaging it lighting and putting arnica cream on it but it's not shifting. It's a strange one, when he stands up straight you can just barly see it, but when he bends towards you it comes up as a big hard lump. It's hard when it's big but soft when flatter - if that makes sense?
We thought he must have been rolling on a stone or flint (he's a fervent hippo roller, finds the mud and goes for it), but surely that should go down after a few days? When the lump is hard it's rock hard, almost boney. But it's on top of the ribs, where there's only tissue, can it be tissue damage? And if so, is there anything I can do? He's not particularly bothered, it's not painful but I don't want to put a saddle on him even if it's not on the same place it's close.
Any ideas
