Have been sitting here wondering how I could turn Niobe's death into something positive, and came up with this idea...
As some of you know a donation fund has been set up to help towards Niobe's vet bills, which have run into thousands. Your offers to help us with this are more than appreciated and very badly needed at this time. But I know that you were all hoping for a happy outcome for Niobe as of course we were.Sadly now this is not to be,although as Quarabian aptly put it the vets bill is not going to go away.
So, I did wonder that if people still wanted to donate in memory of Niobe's brave fight, that when the bill has been paid and we are financially back on our feet (which won't be until next year mind) I could pay them all back individually. Then thought that this wouldn't work well and would probably offend some people anyway. So I thought maybe, if anyone helps with donations now, if next year I match these donations and add some myself I could then donate the resulting amount to the Macmillian Trust or Cancer Research, then your generosity would be two fold: first helping us, then going on to help in the fight against cancer... a kind of "Pay It Forward". I think everyone on A Lines has been affected by this cruel and indiscriminate disease if not personally yourself, with your own family and friends, as I know many of your have, then by the death of Jackie Keen to name just one, and those on this site and in the Arabian World who are still fighting the disease now.
Anyway, just a thought, let me know what you think. Maybe then Niobe's death will mean something other than tears.
I hope this makes sense as I am really tired right now.

I love the idea, but (and this is not criticism!) how about splitting the dontations between the cancer charity and the vet hospital itself? Not as the bill payment but a donation for research or something. Just a thought! |

Can someone tell me how I can donate? I think this is a great idea. I've just seen the details on how to donate, will do that later. |

That's a lovely idea, and so nice to think the Niobe fund will have a double purpose - a fitting tribute to your lovely girl |

That's a lovely idea. I have no idea where to donate, but I'm off to look.
My aunt died last weekend from cancer, following my dad (her brother) nearly seven years ago from brain cancer....I think what you are doing it lovely. xx

I think that is a lovely idea, I lost my grandad, uncle and my 26 year old cousin to a genetic form of cancer and both me and my mum have had pre-cancerous cells removed. Cancer devastates so many peoples lives, not just the people who get it, and everyone knows someone who has been taken by this horrible disease. |

I could'nt follow Niobe's story as I found it too stressful. I am very sorry that you lost her but she is at peace now. Also your idea sounds a wonderful one.x |

To any one who doesnt know Kristi Belle has at last had her baby.A beautiful little girl Isabelle, 8lb 10 oz, on Friday night so I am a granny againand I am very proud of my daughter, she really is very special,as those of you who know her ,already know xxxx So far £147. donated to Niobe fund. Thanks everybody ,I will make sure that all the money is 'paid forward' to cancer research, unless you particularly want it to go to Bristol hospital for horses. It is your donation so I will honour your wishes. As soon as the bill is settled in the new year,I will let you all know xxxxxxx |

Just to let everyone know the donations currently stand at £315. I just cant get over how generous the people on her have been, and every ones support and kind messages have been a real tonic through this sad time. Niobes mum has been looking for her they were so close and always together, it is so sad to see her pacing around the field calling. she just does not seem to accept she is gone. I still have the foals advertised and am open to offers to help towards the bill.
p.s could the people who posted cheques please pm me their addresses |
