Does anyone use magnet therapy, would it help reduce Baz's wound lumps on his front leg?
Can anyone recommend a company to buy from -pm please-

Can you make your own?

Hi, Years ago my daughter's horse did her tendon in, we had loads of expensive treatment from the vet including painful injections (which meant she was a nightmare to inject forever after), after she had recovered she was out in the field and I actually watched her do it again , rather than go through the trauma of the injections again I tried a magnetic boot and homeopathic remedies plus more box rest. She actually recovered quicker the second time (possibly not such a bad injury the second time but the boot definitely took the swelling down).

I have also used them as a post ride therapy for endurance, and to help with swelling after one of ours was kicked.

My original and very expensive boots have just finally disintegrated and I have replaced them with some from ebay which were much cheaper and are multiuse wraps which can be fitted on legs knees and hocks which seemed like a good idea to me. Haven't actually used them yet, but see no reason why they wouldn't work.

I believe they work - my horse didn't know it was a magnetic boot and it brought the swelling down, so it can't be the placebo effect. Can't say they would definitely help your boy's injury but they can't do any harm (as long as they are applied correctly )

I used them on my Laminetic mare to promote bloodflow and I think they actually worked, even though my vet said it was a waste of money, but a friend of mine has a really arthritic horse on one leg and in themorning he was usually very stiff till he walked it off and she uses them now and it has made adifference, a huge difference, she no longer gives him Danilon at night.

Janet

ps. I used the bioflow boots.

I can only say for me they are the best item to have in your tack room. I have used them with great success and would certainly recommend them for most swellings or knocks. My vet actually recommend that we try them after one of our arabs was left with a large lump over an injury which had required stitching. It stood proud by approx 1/2 an inch, and with the boots over a period of 6-12 months, has almost completely disappeared. The vet could not actually say why or how they work, but that he was having a very good success rate using them. I am told that they increase the oxygen supply to the injured area and not actually an increase in blood flow, but hey who cares as long as you get the desired result.
I would say dont expect an instant result overnight, it can take a few months and also introduce them slowly as indicated on the packaging, gradually increasing the time worn on a day to day basis to start with.
Best of luck

Well it seems i'm the only one who doesn't rate them. I was given a magnectic pad by the physio to use on my boys knee to reduce a fluid filled swelling he had on it (along with other physio treatments). It was strapped to his knee in a special stocking, also provided by physio (both extremely costly), but after a few weeks he ate it including the magnets. I was frantic with worry trying to find it in his poo's, when i couldn't find them i rang the vets who found it very amusing and said he would be fine unless i walked him past something metal and he stuck to it. I never did find them but they didn't seem to make any difference from the outside/in or the inside/out .

The Bioflow magnets certainly do work. I have used them on my horses and myself. I get very stiff during the day mucking out and filling haynets (11 boxes) on my own and really ache by tea time. I use a Bioflow Magnetic Belt around my waist at night and when I get up in the morning I can touch my toes again. I also wear a Bioflow bracelet permanently. When I had a bath one night and forgot to put it back on for a day or so I noticed how my joints in my fingers started to click and ache again. They are definitely a very good product combined with Cortaflex (for horses) and Glucosamine and Chrondoitin for humans.
Like all these things give them time - there is no miracle cure overnight.

One thing that might be worth noting is that you shouldn't wear them 24/7. I can't remember exactly why, and maybe someone with more knowledge can fill in, but I think it has something to do with upsetting the blood chemistry and impacting the amount your drink/urinate??????

I use the bio-flow products.....

As some of you are aware wiz has broken his leg again and is wearing his bio-flow rug during the day. He was stiff while at the hospital and we took it down for him, the staff said he was definately more mobile after wearing it for a couple of days....I also used the boots on the same leg after he broke it the first time...he was left with a calcified lump on the fracture site, he wore his boots at night after the wound had healed and there is hardly any swelling at all now....he wears them warming up at shows and when they come off to go in the ring you cant see the lump at all. He will be wearing his boots again this time round once the wound has healed.

I also have an older horse with a tendon injury and wouldnt be without the boots for him, if he tweaks his leg the boots go on and hey presto swelling disapears.

I wear a magnetic wrist band and I find if I forget to put it on my sore bits are definately worse and I get very tired.

So a thumbs up for magnets for me.

Put your ass on some class....ride an arab!

My older boy has an aerborn magnetic rug he wears when travelling to competitions, def seems to help his muscles warm up better, and he has aerborn pastern wraps on in the winter overnight as he has DJD in his pasterns and fetlocks

The only input my vet will give is " well, they can't HURT him so why not!"

Be careful of cheap immitations though, the product only works if the right magnets are used eg bioflow or areborn etc

Also the magnets items must be with the magnet facing the correct way. We actually made for Armadillo ( all their watchstrap type were ours and we designed the dog collars ,, which they now market humm )

So yes beware the cheap imitations

Ryazan has had magnetic hind boots for the last five years and wears them for the max 12hrs a day as recommended. They are to help his truly massive windgall and the old tendon injury, which tends to flare up if he hoons around too much. Yes, clever horse, they are both on the same leg, which, having a white sock, tends to get mud fever as well! I think that they have really helped him and used them because I'd had good experiences using bio-flow products on my dogs - arthritic back ends (GSD's)- and me - ditto! Current GSD, 9+yrs and still very active although a bit arthritic on the back legs and pelvis, has a magnet collar, and when it gets damp and cold, I wear a bracelet. I do think they help; horse vet says " You'd get the same result with the horse if you put bandages on him every night - but they dont do any harm, so - carry on!" Dog vet says he thinks they help. GP says "whatever...!"
