It has come to my notice that due to my not renewing with a website provider, some inappropriate material is being displayed under the name of Denmoor Stud, this has been done without my knowledge or consent, and is IMO a shabby attempt at forcing the domaine name holder to renew a contract. I would like to apologise to anyone who has visited this site, expecting information on Hale Bop A new site is under construction and will be launched in due course.

My commiserations. Yes. it's highly inappropriate. I don't see what would be wrong with you posting the name of your hosting provider, to protect the rest of us from foolishly using the same one!

I have been informed that this is not down to my provider, but a company who avail themselves of sites that have not been retained, they then offer them for resale, apparently this is not uncommon, but how can this be stopped, and has anyone else experienced this? time for a clean up methinks the company involved are tucows.com

Not much that you can do to stop this. Some registrars are more reliable than others: With some registrars, stuff like this won't happen, because even some time after domain expiration, you will be able to retake the domain name. With others, you can't. Tucows is rather big, don't think there isn't really much you can do. I would also state that with the proper care, you really don't need to have the domain name associated with any hosting account, so you can use your domain name with different hosting providers. That's really the best option - register the name yourself and manage it independently of anything else you have. Of course, the best alternative of all is to deal with someone you can trust, and the big registrars are not always that reliable. |

Thank you for the advice Rui, its such a mine field, and seems that one has to be careful. Naughty delly-b just could'nt resiet the temptation, ha! ha! think its time to look at the funny side, I do'nt think anyone would take this seriously, can't see myself as a P---s--- Madam, might prove to be more profitable than the Stud though. |

Hi Phillip, the possibilities seem endless, and interesting, I wonder how tucows would feel about all this free publicty, not quite what they had in mind. |

It seems you're not the only one! It says in the paper that Hamleys (the famous London toy store) has lost thousands of pounds worth of business through a similar thing - the 'new' website directed people to 'other' toy stores.
I'm not sure when it all changed - we didn't use to have to pay for our domain name? I haven't in the past, & still haven't - but I am worried now - Rui, have you any info on this please? - are we Ok if we registered back in the mists of time?? Surely, there should be a reminder to pay/invoice - if that is the case? |
