ZOOWAR,a Grey Arab stallion(NPS 513).Imported to England in 1910 from Arabia (Desert Bred) around 1908, standing 14.1h and Owned by Capt.Hon.George Saville,Hawnby Lodge, Hawnby, Yorkshire and where he stood at Stud. Photograph provided by Pelle's Mother, from Olympia Show 1912 (photo from International Horse Show). Wanted any information of off springs from this horse.etc.etc.

ZOOWAR - bred in Arabia, sold to India where he won the Punjab Army Cup and Handicap Steeplechase in 1907 and many other races on the flat and over hurdles. Imp. to England 1910.
1st Eastern Sires P-RPS, London Show 1912. Destroyed 1920.
Sired one other (all I could find!)- Rajah I, grey colt. 1911
ex Rose of Persia.

Bia, Please could you do a last check for any other progeny for Zoowar.. He looks a lovely old boy at White City, sure he must have had a few more ladies before he passed on. I'd have thought they'd have been queuing up after seeing him there.

He has only four purebred Arabians registered:
Rajah 1911
Yakoot 1912
Shejret Eddur 1913
Baida 1914
(No Haleb out of Gulrang)!

Thanks for the info Bia.
I have no breeding for Kitty (Gulrang's dam) and Malika is only Part Bred, so both these are only part bred. Have you found any record of Gulrang she must have been born before Abu Zeyd(Lal I Abdar) landed in the USA.

I've found a Haleb (imp DB) sire of Rhua (A.H.C). He appears in the breeding of Gitthera (1927) with an American breeder and owner.

Hi Melynda, Nice one, getting those early AHS.
Sorry to say its not the same HALEB, the one i'm interested in is/was a GREY, Foaled 1918, measured 14.0h.in 1922.(ZOOWAR/GULRANG-s. LAL I ABDAR/d.1750 KITTY NPS). This one appears in the NPS Vol. XXII pg.16 (& Vol.18 & 19) and was bred in Yorkshire, by the Earl of Mexborough, Arden Hall,Helmsley,Yorks & Owned by Capt.Hon George Savile.. Found no progeny yet.
Got anything in the early books relating to ZOOLKHPAR... and/or a sire for SILVERSPRAY ???.
After a colour for ZAFARAN 1906. H.( Feysal 1894/KASIDA 1891).
Also, Got anything on a Arthur McNaught,East Mascalls.Lingfield,Sussex.(NPS Member 1928.

ZAFARAN 1906 by Feysul ex. Kasida
was chestnut, not in AHS but in GSB breeder was Crabbet Stud.

Her daughter Kantara's off-spring are all chestnut according to AHS books. Don't know why Zafaran wasn't registered in it as well.
No Arthur McNaught anywhere so far.
The only AHS registered Silver Spray is the grey mare born 1958 by Silver Moonlight ex Eldoura. |
