I think it can be safely said that we had our best meeting to date. The ideas are being put forward to the Stud book Committee, for their recommendation, and then to council for their consideration.
If any Anglo breeders/exhibitors feel particularly strongly about the need for the AHS to apply for the British Anglo Mother Stud Book, please contact any Council members with your written views, as the more Council members are made aware of the situation, the better.
Please feel free to contact me. |

Yep........mine too, gone in the post today. As dedicated Pedigree Anglo Arab Breeders are ever more, getting like Hens teeth to track down, we implore Pure Arab/Part Bred Arab Breeders and Owners to back us in our enduring `cause` to keep the British Anglo Arab Pedigree Stud Book, pure!!!
The Arab Horse Society, CAN ensure we will never again have our British Stud Books challenged, or forced into acceptance of any other Country`s definition of Anglo Arab. We are British and pride ourselves on the purity of our Anglo Arabs....and Pure Bred Stud Books must never be allowed to be infiltrated with none pedigree stock. We MUST stand together on this important issue
Perhaps, when AHS apply for and hold the Mother Stud Book for Anglo Arabs,.....then maybe, confidence will be restored and Anglo Breeders will again return to the AHS Membership and record their Anglos in the British Anglo Arab Stud Books.
We are but a few Member/Breeders, but the AHS MUST listen to our voice for we DO deserve the same consideration as your many Pure Bred Arabian Breeders.
DEFRA have confirmed that the AHS CAN apply for and BE the holder of the Mother Stud Book for British Anglo Arab.
Having been a lifelong Member, and recorded ALL (many) Anglos and also Part Bred Arabs with the AHS over almost four decades, and, on behalf of ALL Anglo Owners and Breeders, I trust the Arab Horse Society NOW recompense (for all the stress and trauma which has been caused, by this fifteen years long Saga)......AND apply to DEFRA to become the custodian of the BRITISH ANGLO ARAB STUD BOOK
Whether, we are four, four hundred, or four thousand, Member/Breeders MUST be treated with equality.....it is in your power AHS, to ensure that the Pure Bred Anglo Arab does not become a "rare breed"
Babs....edited `typo` just bumping back to page one....Urgent Topic!!!

Thank you so much for responding so quickly. I am not sure exactly when the next Council meeting is. We were told it was the beginning of November. They have promised to put a statement out after the Council meeting, so if there is anybody else out there who has a point of view, and has not yet put pen to paper, please would you do so.
If anyone wishes to question either Lyn or myself on this subject, do not hesitate to get in touch. |

Having been a nuisance about this subject for goodness knows how long, I would hate everyone to think I've given up and lost interest, but I have been on holiday and only just picked up the thread again. Be sure my letter will be on it's way asap.

Obviously this is a very emotive subject for those involved and IMO the proposal have to be properly considered and definitely all members should be treated with equal importance. However, surely for the sake of the whole memebership rather than just those who breed Anglos the cost inplications of the proposals have to form part of the discussions. With, I am told, less than 20 Anglos registered each year one has to give comsideration to the cost involved in holding the Mother Stud book against the membership and registration fees received, surely the whole membership has a right to vote on this. and tha matter should be fully considered by the Stud Book and registration committee so that a properly constructed proposal can be tabled at the AGM
I am not saying that as a pure bred person I would vote against but the costs involved would be a factor in my decision making process and I believe that in the interests of equality all members should have a voice if the amount to be expended is high

In reply to Cinders, sorry to be boring and having to repeat the story yet again. The Society has had four votes of the whole membership on this subject, over the last fifteen years. Each time it has been defeated. By applying for the British Anglo Arab Mother Stud Book, it will finally put this to bed once and for all.
As to the costs, according to DEFRA, there will be none, as the Society already has an approved Anglo stud book. Talking of costs, why were the visits to the CIAA over the years, never put clearly in the accounts. None of us knew the Society were paying for these visits, although this year the representative that attended the meeting was personally financed.
To date, this year forty six Anglo foals have already been registered, with more pending.
As far as I am concerned, the Anglo and Part breds have never had equality. |

Cinders..........TOTALLY DISAGREE!!!!! FOR TWENTY YEARS ANGLO ARAB BREEDERS HAVE BEEN FED A LOAD OF B******T, LIES, FABRICATIONH OF THE FACTS, FOUR TIMES MEMBERS HAVE VOTED NO!!!! TO INCLUDE AA11`S IN OUR STUD BOOK. HOW MUCH HAS THAT LOT COST THE MEMBERSHIP!!!!
PLEASE DON`T NOW INSULT US BY ACTUALLY SUGGESTING THAT BECAUSE WE ARE BUT A SMALL NUMBER OF MEMBERS......WE ARE NOT WORTH WHAT MUST BE A MINIMUM COST???? SET AGAINST THE FOREGOING ALMOST TWENTY YEARS OF WASTED MEMBERS FUNDS, TRYING TO COHERSE ANGLO MEMBERS INTO ACCEPTING THE FRENCH DEFINITION FOR ANGLOS. WITH REGARD TO THE SUGGESTION TO OBTAIN CUSTODIANSHIP OF THE MOTHER STUD BOOK. HAVE THE AHS COUNCIL MADE ENQUIRIES AS YET????? AS TO COST..SURELY DEFRA CAN GIVE AN OUTLINE OF THE FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS, OR MIGHT THIS TAKE MANY MORE YEARS
I AM ABSOLUTELY BOILING
Who are you Cinders?????......why not put a name to your post !!!!

AND......WHERE ARE THE ANGLO ARAB STUD BOOKS (LAST ONE PRINTED IN 2002) PROMISED MANY MANY TIMES AND STILL NOT AVAILABLE.....THEN COUNCIL WONDER WHY ANGLO ARAB BREEDERS ARE ANGRY

Our posts crossed Sue......I just cannot believe the contents of Cinders posts.....I am still pulling my hair out in rage at the humiliation and insulting nature of her comments, obvious proof of how the AHS Council view Anglo and Part Bred Members.
They are glad to take our Membership Fees, Registration Fees, Breed Stock Fees, etc etc which are the same for Anglo Members as for Pure Bred Arabs....and yet brush aside our request which apparently is without cost.....with such flippancy!!! Whilst they have wasted Membership money for many years

My name is Yvonne Marriott - nothing to hide there (my christian name is on the post)
You can disagree all you like but surely ALL members have a right to vote on the proposals the costs of which have not been yet established as far as I can see. When they are then we can all make a decision as to how to move forward.
I am actually sympathetic to the plight of the Anglo breeders and think the proposals have many merits but I also believe that the costs could be an issue and simply want some indication of the cost to the society and thus all members, I don't think the question is unreasonable

Yvonne,
As you will see from my previous post, DEFRA have stated that no costs are involved for the AHS applying and becoming the British Anglo Arab Mother Stud Book.
Membership have voted against joining the CIAA because of their definition of the Anglo. The working party offered the French a compromise, which was turned down flat. The working party should have been able to see this situation through to the end, but unfortunately they were disbanded, with no prior notification.
I do not understand what other costs you refer to - maybe you would enlighten me. |

Cinders, as Sue says DEFRA have confirmed there are NO costs to AHS to apply for custodianship of the Mother Stud Book for the British Anglo Arab. Agree.....what other costs, please enlighten us so we are able to make the comparison of what the AA`11 issue has thus cost Members.....over a span of almost two decades.....and still rolls on
How long will it take the Stud Book Committee to agree this is the way to go and will finally bring about a conclusion?? Then, how long will it take to print voting forms and include with next AHS News issue, which goes to all members???? Certainly not rocket science to assess what the possible cost may be!!!
However, there may be a stumbling block.....if the printing of voting forms takes as long as the printing of the last two modest volumes of the Anglo Arab Stud Books (Volume 15 was printed in 2002)....and still no sign of Volumes 16 and 17 So on the strength of that, looks likely to be another decade, before voting forms are likely to be printed........

As there are no costs involved,to the AHS or its members, the four votes (by ALL members) must stand.

Agree Jean..It does seem that the four NO`s have been accepted in principle..What now appears to be the issue, is the next step.. A Stud Book Committee meeting to discuss and approve the Working Parties suggestions and the application to DEFRA as custodian of the British Anglo Arab Stud Book.....and if approved, all Members must vote their acceptance or otherwise. YET ANOTHER VOTE!!!!!
Mother Studbook custodianship in the ONLY WAY of safeguarding the integrity of the British Anglo Arab Stud Book for all time. If this is NOT achieved, Anglo Breeders will remain in exactly the same position as we have been enduring all these stressful years A future change of Council may well decide we HAVE to accept AA11`s into our Anglo Stud Book and the whole fiasco will once again rear its ugly head!! Methinks the AHS would sooner just do nothing and leave things as they stand, this is not acceptable to Anglo Arab Breeders/Members, we need closure, once and for all time!!

The problem is even though we voted against joining the CIAA the AHS (or influentual members) have seen fit to ignore this and have done the opposite. Why, and on whose authority? Certainly not the members'. How does this person or persons think they have the right to override the Members vote? Justice? I don't think so, and would yet another vote on the costs achieve anything (apart from expense) more than previous votes?
The Society's present malaise seems to arise from a common problem at the top. Matters are taken into the hands of a few regardless of the members views whether it be the Anglo votes, the premature disbanding of the Working Party or even the method of investigating the Malvern abuse allegations.
Ego's these days are far to big and there is a tendency to forget that the Officers are the Servants of the Members and not the Owners of the Society.

Well said Jean..... Couldn`t have put the root facts to the problem in better words......SERVANTS TO MEMBERS NOT OWNERS OF THE ARAB HORSE SOCIETY. NO PAYING MEMBERS..........NO ARAB HORSE SOCIETY!!!!
