Has anyone had these carried out on their horse for sacroiliac problems? What was the treatment/prognosis?
Thanks.

Oh no---has one of yours got a problem? I've had scintigraphy done on a couple of horses, though not for sacroilliac problems, and the thing to remember about it is for hot spots to show up they have to be active.Problems that have been there for a while and have settled down don't show up so it gives best results when acute, and the horse hasn't been rested. I hope you get it sorted. |

Hi Lisa, I agree with everything Heather said . It is a useful tool when diagnosis isn't straight forward and will pinpoint hotspots. But they have to be active, just like Heather said.
It was a bone scan that finally showed up Dennis's problem where xrays didn't. They are usually quite expensive though and permission must be sought from your insurance company beforehand if you intend to claim for it, otherwise they could refuse to pay out. |

My insurance company are aware of the referral but they didn't mention about permission for bone scans. They took place today.... I shall get straight on the phone to them tomorrow. That's all I need, an excuse for them to not pay out! |

My gelding had scintigraphy at Edinburgh, it must be 14 years ago now ! He has injured himself in the field while playing with another heavier gelding, the vets weren't convinced his loss of action was that important but when you know your horse you can recongnise instantly when something isn't right. I had to insist he have the procedure
He was with them for approx 14 days, pre scintigraphy he had other diagnostics carried out then in isolation after the scintigraphy procedure.
It highlighted a hot spot on his greater trochanter which when he came home was treated with physio, ultrasound and something similar to a tens machine and many weeks of controled exercise.....he was a 2 year old colt at the time so I'm not sure the word controled really came into it The good news is he made a full and total recovery |

Hi
Paddy (Amys hairy cob) had one in April to comfirm scroiliac problems. Before you read this i might of spelt things wrong!!!! LOL
Because he has had laminitis in the past (before we got him) Rossdales didnt want to stick him full of steroids.
He has seen an approved phsio every two weeks and did 12 weeks just walking and trotting in straight lines.
We put him onto Synaquin in his food and also blue chip dynamic.
When he didnt seem to be making much progress we tried him with Cartrophen injections. They seemed to work short term but them wore off.
Anyway on Monday he is back into Rossdales for irap treatment (spelt it as it sounds!!!!) this was surgested by the chiropractor who treats him ,as she has seen good results on race horses.
As it is his own blood being injected back into him it wont do him any harm and we have nothing to loose.
He is ok if he hacks all week and just schools at the weekend but he will never be able to compete at the level of dressage he was doing.
His problems have been caused because little 14.2hh heavy weight trad cobs are ment to pull caravans in straight lines. Not do medium level dressage and be in training for FEI. Or do changes!!!!The problem is a dressage horse problem!
Hope this helps.
Just to say that Paddy did go out and do a 72% prelim the other day but as Amy said its not a win at elementry which is were they were in April before he broke!

Hi Nicky, thanks for your reply.... I would be interested in hearing about paddy's IRAP results. I've heard of it but don't know what it entails. I hope it works for him.
Leigh, thanks. Hope all is well with you and yours?.... x
