My horse is my very best friend. Nothing in the world can separate us. When he dies I know he'll be waiting for me at the gate... just like always.

I'm sure this sounds really stupid but what does it mean to be a % crabbet? I know about the stud and the horses they produced but do they have that big an influence that so many horses carry their bloodlines? And how do you work out the percentage? |

For a single stud such as Crabbet to have such a profound influence on Arab horse breeding is astounding, with very few horses worldwide without some Crabbet genes. The stud imported stock selected by themselves & produced a true desert type. This stock has bypassed the whims of show ring fashion to produce an animal today that will obviously resemble its forbears in type. They are not sort after in hand as they aren't 'exotic' etc as desired by these producers. They produce the most lovely animals, bred to carry a man all day every day & the heart to be devoted to their master. Modern show producers would regard them more as riding types as they have more substance & less flamboyance than in hand animals, examples are Silvern Rislaam, HOYS winner 2007 (99%), Azraell, HOYS winner 1998 (81%). There is a thriving pool of 100% (ONLY Crabbet genes) & high % (75%+) stock in the UK, USA, Europe & Australia. In this country visit 'The Crabbet Organisation' website for details on how to work out % & links. They are also reknown for making excellent outcrosses with other breed lines producing wonderful animals. Even horses such as Camargue have very significant proportions of Crabbet in them. Their blood is very prepotent in conveying quality & type, & they usually have the most wonderful natural stride / movement.
Owner of 2 Crabbets, 96% mare & 98% daughter. |
