Looked up Bint Fikkri's 1993 foal on datasource and it was a filly, G Fiesta. He has one other full sister G Farhanna (1994).

Everyones stories are so interesting - it must have been such an amazing place to work and to visit with such incredible horses bred there.

Roger (Linda Hannaford's husband) was videoing the showing class which Shalkar was in, when 'it' happened but he was so shocked he took his finger off the 'record' button and it stopped but would have been a great piece of film...

Can we say what happened?

Thats very kind Delyth. There is something about older mares that tugs at my heartstrings, trouble is there is the heartbreak when they leave us.

Caravella was bought by Nicki Carr - an Essex girl who looked after her until her untimely death which I understand was very quick and stress free. Sadly Nicki was rather soured by the lack of understanding offered locally when Caravella was due to foal with someone even staling her forage at one point. That said I feel sure that the last months of her life were better by far than what she had endured before

It all seems so long ago now, Encendedora is 18 now

I remember Encendidora Yvnonne , as I asked to buy her from Penny when I went over there, I offered £2,500 and was turned down, that money would have fed the other horses!, I wanted her as I was into spanish in those days, as I was turned down I went and bought Bambooki from Francesca instead, so its funny how things work out , it was never meant to be for me to have her, but out of all of the horses she seemed to have faired a lot better than most and still had a bit of condition on her . I am pleased you still have her

Well do correct me if I'm wrong Gossy, but hearsay from said shocked videoing bystander was that Rumak was in a class of stallions and managed to unseat his rider. He then mistakenly thought the other stallions were ready to be covered (!!) and people couldn't get out of the ring because the steward or stewards wouldn't open the gateway, probably to avoid wholescale mayhem. Is that a reasonably correct interpretation??

Encendedora lives on fresh air and is a truly wonderful horse to have around - no trouble at all. She's probably been wasted with us as she has had only two foals and I am pretty sure she could produce something of very high quality given the chance. Of course circumstance do change but I cannot envisage parting with her, she's always the first to say hello.

Sadly she is no longer ridden as she appears to have had a shoulder injury sometime whilst she was at Gucci's and finds being ridden uncomfortable, mind you she's a great lawnmower and far greener than a petrolmower.

Once we have moved we do plan to cover her again, our stallion of choice would be El Perfecto but I understand he is no longer available to outside mares so one of his sons will be chosen, LM Perlamor if possible

We have kept her daughter Ibiza who has this year had her first foal by Vervaldee, taking to motherhood like a duck to water. The foal is not ours so I am trying deperately not to get too fond of her, very hard as she is rather special. Again we would like to use a straight spanish stallion over her but with the market as it is we'll have to wait a while

I would love to know what happened to the chestnut sister of G Baryshnia, I don't remember her being in the sale, we saw her when we went to see Encendedora but I have heard nothing of her since

Hi Delyth, as Yvonne says, this is what I posted (on page 4) about Caravella:

"My friend, Nicole, and her husband Graham bought Caravella in foal to Vody. Very sadly, having foaled and lasted a year beyond that foaling, they came down to the field one day to find Caravella had died. Her son, Enzo (registered name, "Carrera") is the same age as Madaba (11) and a lovely example of an Arab. Still with Nicole, he is a stallion who has always been turned out with a gelding companion and, I have to say, has a temperament to die for. I was always sorry that I had met Nicole after she had lost Caravella and I never had a chance to meet such a beautiful mare myself.."

So she did have a nice last year or so...

Rosanne, I was in the ring when Rumak got free, I was riding our very sensitive stallion and was looking out for trouble before it happened, I saw Rumak throw himself about and Penny came off, where upon I made a bee line for the gate and got out of the ring before all hell broke loose! Rumak did go on a rampage and tried to mount several other stallions, who obviously were not happy about the idea. There were alot of people in the ring and complete mayhem until the 'naughty boy'was captured. It was very frightening and I'm just pleased that I got out of the ring as my stallion was very 'Scrappy' and would not have been passive! I can't remember if any other stallions got loose, it was a bit of a blur!

Chestnut sister of G Baryshnia would be Babakina racking my brains but can't remember where she went! (sold to someone for racing rings a bell) but my long term memory could be imagining that scenario lol

Yes Roseanne spot on! Rumak was a naughty boy back then, none of us enjoyed going in to give him his feed, we all have war wounds from him, i have to say though i beleive he has mellowed with age.

Gosh Steph, well sorted by you! It sounded like some kind of scary melee!! I wonder if anyone has a video of that class?

I also believe that Rumak is much chilled and I think he had a very special relationship with Suyen Talken Sinclair that might have been part of the solution. She has a great way with horses and a special relationship with Arabs.

I remember the Rumak incident, and we were at the AA/PB ring. There were three calls for the medics for different incidents all at the same time to three different places on the show ground, and all by about 9am on the first day. We did wonder what the rest of the show was going to bring, all very exciting, if traumatic.

I remember the Rumak incident, I'd only been in Arabs a couple of years having come from BSJA and was still getting my head round a completely different way of horses competing, shall we say. I remember coming home and telling my show jumping mates who were convinced I would sell my Arabs and return to jumping after that, they still did and do have their own ideas as you can imagine.

Tzarinaarabians@yahoo.com

"The horse is God's gift to mankind."

"The daughter who wont lift a finger in the house is the same child who cycles madly off in the pouring rain to spend all morning mucking out a stable."

"All horses deserve to be loved by at least one little girl during their life"

Tzarina,

There are times when we should be grateful that Arab shows don't attract the everyday spectator! The reputation would be even worse than it is.
