Hi everyone, I have been a regular reader of AL for a few years now but never felt I should join as I dont have a horse I have plucked up the courage to join so I can join in the discussions etc, I hope you dont mind! I used to own a TB mare which I had for 8 years when unfortunately I had to sell her, I part loaned her to a lovely lady who one day offered to buy her, I was struggling financially, was young and just did not have the time, I was living on my own and missing rent payments etc as my princess lived a life of luxury I competed in a little bit of endurance for a couple of years along with local level showing. I have since got married and have 3 lovely (human) babies, a boxer dog and a cat, living in north derbyshire/ south yorkshire. I am studying to be a nurse at mo so dont really have the time for a horse, but I will definately get another when ive finished training, I miss it soooo much :-( I hope you dont mind me joining you. Nikki x

Hi Nikki, welcome to AL! How far into your training are you, and what branch are you going in to? I studied Direct Entry midwifery, qualifying in 2006 and, since then, have worked full-time at my local NHS Trust. I think we "mature students" really know what we want and will move heaven and earth to achieve results!
All the best, Caryn |

Thank you for the welcome Gerri Caryn, I applied for midwifery for 2 years (been on an access course at college) but have made it to interview stage but then have let myself down in interview and been unsuccessful boohoo :-( Midwifery is what I REALLY want to do but have decided to do nursing first (adult branch) then do the 18 month top up after. However, there is talk that the conversion courses are being withdrawn which is madness. We shall wait and see what happens once im finished training. I havent actually started yet, will be in sept, have been accepted on the course. Just finished college last week which was a hard slog! Nikki x |

Nikki, I also did this via the Access route, but I only applied for Midwifery as I had no interest in becoming a nurse. You'll probably find that the funding will come around "full circle" and there will be 18-month conversion courses by the time you qualify. Where are you studying, and (more importantly) where are your placements? I studied at City University (London) and my placements were both in East London - Newham and Homerton hospitals (I figured that if I could survive 3 years in these environments, I could survive ANYTHING)!

Hi Nikki Welcome to AL, if you don't have time for your own horse you could always find a share when you have more time. Good luck with your training. |

Hi Nikki,
Welcome to AL. I'm fairly new and have found everyone so helpful and friendly. Maybe you will find someone on here who is close to where you live who might be able to offer you the odd ride now and again...!
Good luck with your training.
