Just wondered what the general opinions on synthetic saddles? I bought a new Thorogood not the griffen the other one and it has been great. It has the fish system and has been worn on My arab gelding,a 2 year old TB and a 13.3 round pony! My friend has a wintec with cair and is very happy with that too but I prefer the softness of the seat on mine as it is imitation suede. Also they are so light to carry around and easy to clean Don't think I would buy another leather one now.

Not keen, personally, not because they're synthetic but because I could never get the fit right. Also I don't like the way the bars are too far forwards on them having got used to riding with mine right back! That's just what I've got used to now though and if I could get a synthetic that fits really well (and has bars in the right place I'd certainly use one. |

When I backed my then youngster I used a Maxam extra-wide cob GP, which fitted him fine and was cheap enough not to cause heartache if he'd had a strop and damaged it. We then moved onto a Thorowgood extra-wide endurance saddle, which has done him now for four years with no problems. I've always used Thorowgoods and have had five or six over the years, all good fits for both my skinny ex-racer TB and my two 'round' Arabs. |

Sorry it is a Griffin I have NOT the Maxam! Did try a 2nd hand Maxam once and not too keen on it but this one is lovely. Its cut fairly straight and leaves plenty of shoulder room plus sits you in a good position. Not sure regarding if they are better fit than Wintec, just prefer the saddle. |

Mine looks like the T4 GP. The most comfortable saddle I have had. |

I've got the T4 GP Cob as well - really pleased with it super light, super comfy, easy to look after and adjustable with 'Fish' and the headplate thingy. Have always found Thorowgood great for Arabs, without breaking the bank. Tried Wintec and could never get a good fit |
