Well tomorrow is the last time he & darling Cuckoo will be together:( - the dreaded weaning! She has to go back to her owners on Saturday........we are going to miss her so, so much- :(((((
This wee little mare - well OMG what would we have done with out her?!!! Shes been the most amazing "mummy" to Charlie from the very start to now - even though he towers over her - shes still in charge!!!

We are so sad that she has to leve us:)))

I will take photos tomorrow.

Nooooooooooo, I really hoped that they would let her stay with you. What a fantastic mum and saviour she has been and long may she continue doing what she does best.

She is a credit to you too Judith, she's in fabulous condition and has done Charlie proud.

Please keep in touch with her and give us updates........

Vera - we had hoped that she could stay with us....but sadly no - they want her back..I'm not going to argue with them as they have been so kind to let us have her for Charlie...........she does look rather different now to when she came to us!

For those who don't know the story............We lost Charlies mum Tessa (Rumbolds Contessa) foaling....it was the most horrific experience ever but thank god for Phillipa & her Vets cool head - she saved Charlie & put darling Tessa to rest..........then her & Lisas fight (& all at their Equine practice) to save Charlie - well it was amazing!!!!!!! Cuckoo was brought into their practice with a brain ]damaged foal that they tried to save.....but after many days they had to put to sleep....coincided with us bringing Charlie back to them as he was scouring terribly - the mare replacer milk was not agreeing with him & he was poorly.....well.............it ended up with Cuckoo & Charlie being put together to see if she would take him.........Well she did in about 1/2 hour & she allowed him to feed.............& never looked back!!!!

so 10 months on.....We have a cracking, huge, beautiful bay Arab boy - Charlie - he towers over his mumXXXX

Just to add........the support we had from AL & all & continue to have about Charlie is totally amazing!!!!!! Thank you allXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

How heartbreaking Judith. You're going to miss her desperately! I hope Charlie settles without his 'mum'. What a lovely mare; you were so lucky to find her. How generous of the owners too... Hope all goes well!

I was another one hoping that lovely little mare could stay with you. The transformation in her was wonderful---bet it was the happiest days of her life living with you! I know you don't want to argue with her owners, and that is very understandable, but maybe a gentle suggestion??? You never know, they maybe think you will be wanting her out of the way, so no harm in making it clear you would like to keep her.

Yes........go for it. She can only say No but she might say YES Tell her how you feel about Cuckoo and how much you would REALLY like to keep her. If you are prepared to buy her, all the better as it sounds she has had lovely life with you and her HUGE son.

Do hope her owner considers how attached and grateful you are and may let you keep her. Fingers crossed, she may weaken and decide to let Cuckoo stay with you. I certainly know how you must feel about her as she saved Charlie`s life.

Sadly - she does have to go back to her owners its a long story of how they came to own her....We would keep her as we love her to bits - she has to be returned to them - we are just to thankfull that they allowed her to come to us in the first place. We will keep in touch with her owners & hopefully visit her - they don't live that far from here!

Well - Charlie, Ruby & Manon are in their stables in the barn - Polly & Cuckoo in our furthest field! All went well & foals were quite happy to come into the stables without their mums - & Manon happy also (she does love her stable!) - for the past week we have been putting the foals in stabbles by the side of their mums at night - this seems to have worked very well. No hysterics today about being seperated. Tomorrow they will go out into the field with Auntie Manon

On Saturday Cuckoo goes back to her owners & Polly in with my other mares.

I did take photos - but am having a problem downloading them form the camera will have a fiddle!

Hi Judith....I will be thinking of you on Saturday when this special little lady leaves you.
Charlies story touched many of us and we followed his ups and downs avidly, some days we were too scared to open the thread for fear of what we might read, we all rejoiced when Cuckoo decided to play mummy and raise this handsome young man.
The pictures you posted of him getting much bigger than his mum were so lovely.....what a wonderful outcome to a story that started so tragically.
Tessa would be so proud of her boy, she would have approved of his surrogate mummy and the way she has cared for him.
You have done them proud & I hope Cuckoo will be safe, happy and loved when she goes home.
Love to you and Alan

Oh judith, how sad. However, i think some good things are never meant to be permanent, but leave us better off. Think of cuckoo as a little passing angel . In a way, i'm glad she's loved and appreciated by her owners for the little star she is.
I'll be thinking of you on saturday

But WOW - what a boy!!!! if you look in the first photo you can just see his dorsal stripe!! Its very noticable now as are the tiger stripes on his legs - just like his big full brother Rowan!!! But he is far "prettier" (don't let on I've told you that - but hes gorgeous - should have been a girly!!!)

Hi Judith, Nice to see you back a bit more. Yhey both look fantastic. What a great job both you and Cuckoo have done. It is so gratifying when you see these orphans looking good. My darling is 23 this year and it only seems yesterday that I was standing with a bottle. There wasn't a Cuckoo around for Rimmy. Well done
