Hi Egbert, We are in Devon, near Okehampton. Some of the Crabbet folks are aware of us ! I have spoken to Alexia Ross and Becky Ross, who suggested I make a Stud Display for the Nationals, which I did - so Saint was on display in the Crabbet Organisation's tent for the three days. Caroline Sussex has used Saint on a couple of her mares this year (before he came to live with us) and I met up with Anne Brown at the Nationals too. |

Gunni,
No offense meant but I think you are being a little over sensitive. After all you've been through you should have skin like raw hide we all know your made of sterner stuff
There are lots of us Crabbet enthusiasts who do a bit to preserve the Crabbet lines and don't very often get any recognition or encouragement it's not just because your overseas, I'm "Up North" but may as well be in the North Pole !
I didn't see the pics of your youngsters so if you want to post them again I'd love to see them Here's a pic of Willow's half sister, now a 3 year old and turning Liver Chestnut
Edited to say Congratulations and Best of Luck with Winged Saint

Back to original posting...Berryscroft I knew Winged Saint when he was young. He was bred by Mr and Mrs Wright in Norfolk and it was whilst he still lived with them I used to go to their farm and help groom all their Arabians and untangle their long manes especially when they were expecting visitors to their stud.
He was a lovely chap, such a beautful chestnut and very showy in his field. He would scoot off with his tail over his back and fling big clumps of mud at me from his flying hooves. I had often wondered what happened to him and some of the younger mares after I moved away to Yorkshire and both the Wrights sadly passed away.
I am so glad to hear he has a lovely home and I wish you all the best with him.

Hi Terri, Just got back from Africa and am catching up. Will reply to your email later.
Just thought I'd post up here what a "Saint" fan I am - have been since 1992 when I first saw him at the AHS Nationals. Not many horses move that well, even amongst Arabians. He is such a sweetheart too.
It is also no particular secret that I am hoping to breed my 100% Crabbet mare Narishka to Saint next year, as long as Terri and I can make the logistics work. Unfortunately the mare has a few veterinary issues since a bad foaling in 2005 but she had a super live colt foal this year so hopefully she can repeat her success with Saint - but a filly this time please! Fingers crossed.
In my humble opinion, he is definitely a horse that should be more widely used - pretty, great mover, super temperament and performance bloodlines too. What more could any Crabbet breeder want? Alexia |

I sent this to you Terri, but thought others might be interested - or maybe know of Kay Harper - see below.
In the UK studbooks the following progeny are listed for Saint - frighteningly few! Kay's are not there yet but it does not add many. 1995 Moonshell ch.mare from Bint Lahtifah, 100% Crabbet, bred by Mr & Mrs D D Wright 1995 Lammtarra ch.stallion (geld?) from Lahtifah, 100% Crabbet, bred by Mr & Mrs D D Wright 1996 Moulton Storm ch.stallion (geld?) from Bint Lahtifah, 100% Crabbet, bred by Mr & Mrs D D Wright 1998 Silver Moon gr.stallion (geld?) from Moongleam, 100% Crabbet, bred by Mrs M De Popp 1998 Silver Brocade gr.mare from Silver Silk, 100% Crabbet, bred by Mrs M De Popp 1998 Moulton Aura gr.mare from Silver Auriole, Crabbet/CMK, bred by Mr & Mrs D D Wright, exp. to France 2002 Moulton Millennium ch.stallion from Lahtifah, 100% Crabbet, bred by Mr D D Wright (Mrs had died), bought by Gunni Schliemann 2005 Tiarella Rose gr.mare from Alardyn Tiarella, Crabbet/Egyptian, bred by Mrs J R England I had a skim though my old endurance result records that John Hudson sends across to the Crabbet Org. and found that Moonshell was listed as winning 5 endurance rides in 2004 (don't know what distances) with a Mrs Kay Harper - unsurprisingly they appear to be all Norfolk rides, where the Wright's Moulton Stud used to be. You could try contacting the Norfolk AHS group or Sam Mattocks, editor of The Arabian, who is based in Norfolk, and see if anyone can put you in touch with Kay Harper. I presume your Mrs Harper cannot be the same person, but strange to see the name again associated with Saint. Not many yet is it? But 2 exports plus a British National Ridden show champion and a winning endurance mare out of just 8 foals is not a bad record really. The few extra bred by Kay Firth-Butterfield from her endurance broodmares are still young and yet to prove themselves of course although they include Silver Ingot's gorgeous 100% Crabbet filly Silver Serendipity.
Hope this helps.Alexia |

I am new to arabianlines and how exciting to see your entry re Winged Saint who is the father of our 6wk old boy, mum Millie - Crabbet Royal Mantle sire Golden Mantel (Golden Scimitar/Silver Ingot) and dam Mellway Princess Royal (Sahara Kings Royal/Nakishmar?). Millie came to me early June having retired from endurance and apparently refused the attentions of your the Winged Saint. The idea was that we spent the rest of our days hacking out along the byeways of Somerset with no demands other than each other. What a dream to have a foal by Millie I carelessly thought. We all laughed - until the roundness and good doing continued and developed into a strong udder. Vet check x 2 and we were on alert; just 10 days later the beautiful bouncy boy arrived. I hav'nt yet worked out how to post photos on the site but anyway I'd love to be in touch to find out more about this Saintly father - he has a lot to answer for as Millie, a maiden mum and me; new to arabians, now have our hand full for some years to come!! A real delight though. |

How fascinating Pauline - are those numbers at the end distances? And are they in miles or Kilometres do you know? Be interesing to know if anyone out there in Norfolk actually knows Mrs Kay Harper - love to know what this mare is doing now. Alexia |

Not sure if you've seen this one Terri - a Winged Saint colt born this year (very baby here) from endurance mare Royal Mantle aka "Millie".
Very adorable! Alexia |

Hi Alexia - yes thats my babe 'Omar', and thanks for posting his photo; we are all very proud especially as mum hid him away all those months. Terri has the very latest photo taken on 11th but now the sun is out I will send some better ones. Being new to Crabbets and arabians this has been a sharp learning curve especially as I am one of the 50 somethings! Bets are on he will go grey? |

Been meaning to post this PIC up on this thread for a while - Most of you have probably seen this before but, just in case, here is a photo of Winged Saint's BNChampion ridden daughter Silver Brocade, bred by Maureen de Popp:
