I have also bred one of my Crabbet mares to G. Navaroj (Vodolej/Nikarta) and the outcome was a beautiful bay filly known as Marbon Medina. It gives me great pleasure to see these two mares floating about my paddocks showing off just for the fun of it. My Crabbet boys try hard but the two mares knock spots off them for movement.

I agree - this thread is fascinating!

Can't wait to see your G Forgetmenot baby...

Have the Russians been breeding specifically for this fabulous movement for a long time - or is it just that they breed for excellent, athletic conformation, and the movement naturally follows?

The wonderful thing is that the Russian horses pass on the fab movement when crossed with different bloodlines, as Di has found!

Of course, it helps if one crosses them with non-Russians that move like this:

Oops the Bint photo is my fault - this was given to me as a picture of her in her youth - and to be honest it's the spit of her LOL , mind you she was put to Monitor to produce Mona Lisa so there is a connection LOL

The photo of Salon and Padron has reminded me of this one

My Russian Tzar - Barabinsk (NL) - Strij x Barhatnaia by Pesniar, he raced very successfully from 6 furlongs to 2 miles, did the AHS Marathon with the editor of the Horse & Hound twice, competed in BSJA with me, and had all the snort, blow and trot but a complete *****cat to handle. My one in a lifetime arab,

What a wonderful horse Tina! There must be another horse for you!?? Look at all the Russian breeding going on in this country. This thread has been a goldmine. It's almost a document in itself!

I'd love to see some of people's Russian youngstock (Jude???) - have always been drawn to Kerry's Russians too!!

Thanks Roseanne for your kind comments, Basil was my dream Russian, I'll always be grateful to Umm Qarn for letting me have him. His temperament was to die for. I'll always remember when I was on crutches and I used to go in and muck him out and groom him, and everyone used to say to me, you can't go into a stallion's stable like that, your mad. Basil just used to turn round and look at me as if to say "you soft cow, fancy getting in that mess." one day when he was laying down asleep i sat down with him and realized how lucky i was to have such a fabulous horse. I think there were only a couple of Strij sons in this country, the other is Vasilisk x Vospitannica by Temir, and of course the fabulous Strij daughter - the racing machine Diskoteka x Nasechka by Kumir. Maybe I can get Jilly to post a piccie of her

Thats ok Sally, I remember Bint C had a dark mane and tail too when she was young. She was a lovely mareIncidentally I happened to see a super son of Vodolej a week ago, Carrera out of Caravella by Aswan, do you know him? moves like his daddy

I'm not going to put same boreing old pics of my nags on here again, but as Lauren asked here are a few I took Monday(4th Feb) Just snaps in the field, all full winter woolies and mud trimmings but I haven't rugged any this year so this is them 'in the rough'-another great Russian attribute- they are tough and hardy

GAS Seren grey (yes eventually will be!)yearling filly by Balmaran x GAS Skala

Lovely Kerry to see them 'at large' in the field. Imagine how wonderful they'll look in summer coats and all washed up to show! Do you ride any of them?

Birthe - good to know Marcipan has gone back to Tersk. Lucky Russians to have him there.

Lovely pics Kerry you have some stunning Russian mares at your stud. Your Balmaran filly is quite the mover as well!!

Am also a big fan of Russians, in fact they are my favourite type of Arabians and I have a few descendants at my stud. Comete (a Klarnet grand daughter), Jumah (by Div (Peleng)), Laihana Zayin (by Pogojii) and Kissira Zayin ( a Pastor grand daughter).

My favourite Russian stallions in the UK are Palubnik, Narim, Vadeer and Sambist all still at public stud!!

I hope to one day breed straight Russians and put them back on the UK track!

Thanks, yes Roseanne they do scrub up well, except Skala!!! she will be a few more years getting to her white glory All my mares have been ridden, Strelka and Skala are the middle two in my Sig pics, in their Western garb.

Paul you breed some great Russian breds. It would be nice if the Russians could give the French horses a run for their money again. Agree we have some great but underused Russian stallions in this country. I keep saying I'll use Sambist(after all he's a premium stallion, a typey Balaton son and sound through his long race career) ...better not leave it much longer! But have had good foals by others you mention- Palubnik, Pogojii and Klarnet(I bred his only St Russian daughter in this country-Katochka Bint Klarnet) I also owned Pepel, Div's full brother(although Pepel was a less successful racehorse!)

This threat started by asking who are the best Russian stallions today? In UK it must be Narim and Sambist?? JMO of course

Evie I hope you can see the pics now, I've no idea why they went off!

Paul-and I have a Klarnet grand-son!!

It's a fabulous thread isn't it? I never realised that Silver Mebo had so many Russian descendants (some of quite note from the info) until I asked for some photos to add to her portfolio. Jingo and Anfi have posted some stunning pictures in answer to my never ending questions!!

So pleased you are all enjoying this thread Sorry been offline today - been down to Uni to watch my daughter playing RUGBY - if you thought watching your daughter steaming round a cross country course was nerve racking - you should see them on a Rugby pitch. She looked stunning going on - tall and blonde - came off looking as if she'd been mud wrestling - well she had most of the time But still smiling

Back to the thread - hey Paul come and take your pick of one of my straights - I can just see my Marcipan x Perspektiva (Piligrim x Polinezia) racing - or my Nikel x Perebejka (Balaton x Perspektiva) - they're practicing now

KARAVAN (Naslednik x Carolina)

KILIMANDSCHARO (Aswan x Karta)

and the lovely MAGNOLIA (Arax x Mammona)
