Hi Simone,
I am crap at it but thankfully Egbert looked into my colts pedigree for me and not only told me what type he was but what characteristics he might have, passed on from his ancesters.
Sometimes on allpedigree if there is a star by the horses name then there is a photo and a small bit of info. It may tell you who bred the horse or where the horse is from and you can put the pieces together.
Good luck, its fascinating and very adictive, Michelle |

Hi Simone,
Omar El Sireff, was imported by Diane Jeffries in the early '90s having been selected for her by the late Walter Schimanski, co-author of "The Royal Arabians of Egypt And The Stud of Henry Babson". He is Straight Egyptian of predominantly Babson/Sirecho breeding with a dash of "new egyptian" blood from the Bentwood farm bred AK Waseem Montaal. I beleive that Omar El Sireff is still with Lisa Dunn at Elysium Arabians in Norfolk.
Crystal Carousel is of predominantly English breeding with a dash of "Polish" blood via Grojec and Argos, her strain and therefore that of your girls is Seglawi Jedran Ibn Sudan, tracing to Ghazieh via Bint Helwa and Nisan as does Carmargue. Nisan being the fortuitous result of breeding two wedding presents together

Hi Joanne,
Yes, Urainka is the tail female, considered Kuhailan and of very successful racing stock. With her sire line to Mahruss, one of the Ali Pasha Sherif horses, I would expect the mare to be very attractive, a bit long of body and slightly short of leg, but very lovely bordering on elegant. The Mahruss sire line suggests a good deal better than average intelligence. This is a line known to be a solid citizen and would be inclined to think she is watching you, wanting to know what is next, eager to please but not nervy. This is a critical time for her as she is growing so the example you set, the way you treat her now is going to affect her for the rest of her life. Take it slow and easy and remember how intelligent she is...this is one of those lines that you must be aware of dealing with an individual that is like a 3-5 year old child.
For the future...I'd be looking for a Rusleem son out of a Carmargue daughter with either a Seglawi or Hamdani dam line. You will want to shorten her back and head a bit. She is going to be an interesting mare to watch. Pictures? |

Hello Egbert,
I'm fairly new to Arabian lines (though def not new to Arabians!!) Your knowledge is simply astounding! May I inquire about a mare I hope to lease to breed from next year. She is by Taj el Nil (Ansata Nile Pasha/Tambora) out of Aurela (Aurabba/Elvenia)& is 8 years old. Lovely mare, I have a few ideas as to suitable suitors for her but would REALLY appreciate your experet opinion as to a good match. I am looking for something that I could have fun with showing as a youngster & then ride later on (arent we all!!) Any help you could give me would be very gratefully recieved! Thanks Maria |

I can post a photo of "Taj el Nil" for Maria if this helps Egbert?
If at all possible Maria, I would love to see a recent photo of Azaliya. I did see her "in person" as a beautiful foal and also some photo's of her as an older mare but would be very interested to see how she has matured.

Hello Egbert Would like to say how much I have enjoyed this topic(all 50 pages so far). I wonder if I could ask for your thoughts re.the pedigree of a young mare that a friend of mine has recently acquired? Pedigree:http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/Shaarinah. She was foaled 2003 in Germany and is by the Russian stallion "Kais" out of an "FS Bengali" mare. Could I also ask what your recommendation would be should she decide to breed from her sometime in the future? Look forward to your reply and very many thanks in advance.

In the meantime, a "fun" photo of Taj on his way out to the field early one morning with OH. Taj is admiring his reflection in our front room window!! (Please excuse the yellow tail)
