Kate! Thank you for presenting her with the idea at least. I ran it by director Mike Nichols (Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf; the Graduate, et. al.) who owns Arabians about 20 years ago and where I think he was intrigued and had played with the idea-that kind of film wasn't in his baliwick...Think we need the guys that made Hildalgo/Disney? Actually we should probably do it ourselves...Give everyone working/funding it-a percentage including the actors. I can think of at least one Arab oil sheikh and I'd bet there are a bunch of you out there that know some as well, who adore their Arabians and would back such an effort.
So I think we should cast Hugh Jackman as Wilfrid.... |

I think it would make a wonderful film,after all they say fact is stranger than fiction, and you couldnt make up a storyline that would be more interesting, it has everything ,
scandal, deceipt, love, family conflict, the settings would be fantastic, the romance spellbinding, the horses etherial, and I think it would be more popular for the fact that it really is a true story! why not contact the person responsible for the young black stallion film ? with your input Egbert, we would have a box office smash !!!  |

I would rather Jackman...For me Cage has thyroid eyes....where as Wilfrid's were deepset, intense and burning....Did you see him in KATE AND LEOPOLD? Nearly made my toes curl...and that is the kind of charm Wilfrid reportedly had! (Cage is a sweetheart...maybe Lady Anne's brother...if he can master an upper crust accent...)
Anne who would you pick for Lady Anne? Her mother? Lady Wentworth? (remember that person has to be 6 foot tall!) |

Suggestions might be Helen Mirren and Kate Blanchet???
As for Ada Byron or Lady Lovelace, well perhaps Jennifer Ehle (loved her in Pride and Prejudice)
Surely there must be a part for Colin Firth as well - he's a hunk!!

| No Egbert, I dont know who made the film but I do know the lady who owns the black stallion ( he is grey now ) she is a lovely person and I will get in touch and ask her. Hey wouldnt that be fun, and as for visiting you, dont make me wish too hard ,I can be over in a flash !. |

I don't know any of the characters from the real story  However, imo some excellent British actresses are Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Emma Thompson, Helena Bonham-Carter and Kate Winslet. Would any of the parts be suitable for any of them?
ps I'm sure there'll be loads more, just off the top of my head... |

Hmmm...Well you know who I would cast as Lady Anne is an actress I first saw in the 1995 production of PERSUASION-Amanda Root! The suggestion of Jennifer Ehle is terrific, Anne! Loved her in Pride and Prejudice as well! Oooh now Colin Firth would be a great Wilfrid, too.
Emma Thompson is fairly tall isn't she? She might be the perfect Lady W! Just have to darken her hair and buy her plimsols! Surely we could find something for Judi Dench...tho' would love to have her do a little comedic relief...Maggie Smith would be perfect as Ethelred Dillon! Wonder if she could drive a trap?! Like a madwoman? OHHH and another I absolutely adore is Penelope Keith...She was a hoot in TO THE MANOR BORN. Actually when you stop and think about it, we might get some of these gals to invest in the movie...there are so many great women's roles! And the older actresses are always complaining that there are not enough good parts.
Remember the bit with where Wilfrid and Lady Anne stop over in Beirut, I think, and see Lady Jane Digby and the 70+ year old was worried because her husband hadn't made love to her in 3 days or some such? Lynn Redgrave might be suitable for that part...She always struck me as very glam...As for Catherine Walters, aka Skittles...Helena Bonham-Carter would indeed be well cast ...There are pictures of her in PILGRIMAGE OF PASSION by Elizabeth Longford...Good ones, Fee!

I tried to make a film once
Killed off by the President at the time .
Dissapointing and embarrassing as so many were up for it and a lot of my time and money had been spent developing it .
Lady Anne is relevant today .
Glass ceilings,prejudice etc .She was a heroine
Case Tv are still willing if the funds are available to produce the synopsis,about 20000 pounds will make a promo to drum up production funds.
Anyone out there.

| We are all off the thread at the moment...but what the heck. Why would the President kill off the idea? Cannot imagine a more relevant family, never mind group of individuals! The whole idea would be to interest people in the horses via some absolutely extraordinary people. Bizarre that someone would try to deter such an endeavor...Horrifying really. |

I agree Egbert. Another great film (imo) which springs to mind is Seabiscuit. Extraordinary people and horse..each telling their own story through each other, it works so well... I know it too is based on a true story, but not sure how much so...
ps I think we should get Viggo Mortenson involved, he loves his horses and he's such a great actor There would surely be a part for him |

I watched Seabiscuit last night and thought it was a great story - when it came out I remember Jonathan Ross reviewing it and saying it was a really good film - so you don't have to be a horse lover to appreciate a well made film, with a gripping story, interesting characters and fantastic scenery/sets/costumes - although for horse lovers that's the icing on the cake. For arab lovers the Blunts story would be a real gem wouldn't it?
How about approaching Susan George - she has a production company doesn't she? Or Patrick Swayzee - he breeds arabs. |

Meriden MH has to be really something special-most particularly if he is a gray. Sweet, very Seglawi looking yet quite smooth; he should over all excellent conformation, beautiful lay back of shoulder, powerful back end and exceptional movement. If he turns white/gray early-you very likely have a breeding stallion. But with the Polish blood, he could take a LOOOONNNNNGGGG time to mature, particularly the eyes...they can lay flat against the head til he is 6 and look p sized and then BLAM! The orbits suddenly bank out and the eyes go huge and the head becomes exceptionally pretty. Oh, he is a Hamdani Simri strain with a sireline to Amurath Sahib...Really lovely breeding.
Joanna, You have a Kuhailan Ajuz, one of Poland's best dam lines, going to the desert 1845 import Gazella, with the sire line going to the Blunts Ali Pasha Sherif stallion, Mahruss II. This should be an extraordinarily sweet, mare of tremendous character, and great moving. Are you thinking of breeding her? Am sure she would be stellar in any movie about Crabbet or Poland! |

| Thanks Egbert, she does move very well when she chooses! She is very sweet with me but very much a one person horse. If anyone else dares to come near her stable door she pulls the most ugly faces but doesn't actually bite although she did bite my friend on the boob once just after i said she wouldn't! I think she could tell they weren't real and wanted to see what it felt like!! I won't be breeding from her as she is 13 now and I don't have the knowledge or the facilities or the money much as i'd love her to have a foal for me to keep but will leave that to the experts and try and get another of similar lines in a couple of years. | Hmmm...This is mystifying...because she 'should' be a sweetheart with everyone. The only lines I am not terribly familiar with in her pedigree are those passing through the Theobold's Polish lines, but conversely, have seen them show over the years and was always impressed with the quiet dignity of those horses. Have you always owned Harthall Rashida? Presumably something might have occurred that put her off most people except for you....? |

| I've had her since she was five and the lady I bought her from had her from a yearling so I know she has never been ill treated. I think she is just very territorial in her stable, she is fine when she is out of it and in the field. She would prefer to live out full time but unfortunately she got beaten up so has to live in. She does tend to be bottom of the pecking order so maybe that makes her a bit defensive. |
