Cool! That seems to be a unanimous 'yes', so far at least! I'll talk to Paula about it, then. Hope to see her next week sometime anyway.

What would be great would be if one of AL's 'Wise Ones' - Mike? Egbert? Vygoda? - could provide a very brief summary of The Story???

I can't really ask Paula to go and read 6 hefty tomes on the Blunts until she's been given the gist of the story, and an idea of why it would make great TV! I am not familiar enough with it myself - I've read a little bit, but nowhere near the amount that our Wise Ones have. Just a short summary of the key events, the exciting stuff, the connections with well-known historical figures such as Byron, Babbage, etc. TV people say that if you can't get the gist of a programme or series across in a page, 2 pages at the most, it won't work - so there's a challenge for somebody.....

Paula is lovely, and will be happy to read a huge amount - every scrap of literature, diaries, letters, etc - if the initial summary captures her imagination (she did many months of research for The Virgin Queen - knows the life of Elizabeth in every minute detail). She particularly likes stories about intrepid and unusual women - so Lady Anne should appeal to her.

And yes, I will of course mention all the willing extras, advisors, participants, contacts, etc. - and horses! - here on AL.

Obviously there is no guarantee that Paula would be able to take this on - she may simply be too busy - but if she can't do it, she might be able to suggest someone who could, or at least advise us on whether it would work as a TV series or not.

I think the two the of you , Mike & Egbert Could set up some sort of advisory bureau for a small fee of course for us poor souls who can't remember all the facts and figures about the old lines. With the inception of the tail female thread I now have numerous scraps and bits & bobs of paper strewn all over my little office.......all I have to do now is make sense of them all

I'm now worrying desperately about the foals I have due next year, have I really researched enough, will they turn out the way I expect or will they be a complete surprise........I feel a headache coming on and it will probably last until they're born

PS: If we're hiring for the new TV series....I'm the tea lady I make lovely coffee

Sorry - this thread got slightly sidetracked with me getting over-excited about about the Blunt Story TV series - let's get back to horses...

Georgiauk - you are quite right! I think that our 3 Wise Ones could probably make a fortune, either inidivually or together, doing pedigree analyses and breeding advice for ignorant novices like me! But they are all probably too busy, and too altruistic! Thank goodness there are people who are willing to share their knowledge with us like this.

Mike and Egbert - glad I guessed right about Lady Wentworth and El Shaklan (although it was a pretty obvious one); I wonder if Lady Wentworth's friends would now say that she might also include Padrons Psyche and/or maybe Kubinec? I do wish she were here herself to answer! Egbert - can you do seances as well as the other 'psychic' stuff?

What I wish is that Irex had gone to the RAS in Egypt! He He He, I would then have access to Skowronek, Nasra and of course Berk!!!!

Methinks that the PS will be sending a "hit squad" after me!!LOL

Mike

PS Regarding reading pedigree's I think its the MATH! Remember I date from the I.T. "steam age" when reading math was a given!!! And a preferable option for me to economics, stats, or God forbid Social Sciences. Anyone else for CORAL*66? Anyone even heard of it???LOL

PPS Have just realised that I never identified the chestnut that I posted the photo of!Oooops! The horse is Souakim 1894 imported in utero by Grand Duke Adolf Frederick VI of Mecklenburg-Schwerin from Damascus he stood at Weil between 1899 & 1910

Wow Mike, I really thought it was Mesaoud in reverse or a mirror image for the markings are nearly identical! Sure shows the parti-color was prevalent back when!

As for the PS...wish they had kept out of Egypt. Love the idea of breeding within certain parameters...maintain of nucleus of various lines individually...small group of AP/Sheykh Obeyd, a small group of stock that came from other sources back when; a small group of the racing/desert lines and then the mix and match the Crabbet imports provided...Hard to do with African horse sickness. Would like to see the Poles do much the same.

Kate, I'll try to do a 'brief'synopsis for you and forward to Mike. He has a much better handle on English/British history and the historical figures than I, like Lord Cromer. And then he can forward it to you. (Hope that is ok, Mike...I know how busy you are so will try to limit it to 500 words.)

Mike, you and I mirror each other...I got the bachelors and then went back and did the math! What a hoot!

as I understand it she is the dam of sununah dam of zobeyni there are two on all breeds but was told some time ago [cant remember who by now] that in fact they were the same horse but may be thats wrong they do have the same birth year. may be you know different if so I would love to know have not been able to find more about either. I know its a long way back but my boy is black and it must have come from some where other than just close up

Hmmm...doesnt' show after a quick peruse in some of my books and didn't see that in the All Breeds...And it doesn't show a birth year on the All Breeds site...Hmmm...I agree that the black has to come from somewhere...but like albino...am not so certain it just doesn't pop up every so often. I should quickly add I know really zip about color and have never paid much attention EXCEPT in the context of the traits that travel with some colors in certain lines. This may be a question for Mike.

The thing that has aways got me about 'love rat' Wilfrid is that he had a torrid affair with William Morris' wife Janey, yet they never called each other anything but "Mr Blunt" and "Mrs Morris". Can you imagine the bedroom scenes?!?

As a professional writer and editor - with access to much of the material - I would quite happily volunteer for this - it's long been an ambition of mine to help get Lady Anne's life dramatised!

Sorry MinHe/Keren - I didn't know that you were a writer/editor - just suggested the 3 Wise Ones cos of their extensive knowledge of the subject, and cos they can all write well! Didn't mean to leave anyone out! I'm actually a professional writer as well, but nowhere near expert enough on the Blunts. Let's all collaborate, OK? Get Mike or Egbert to email you their draft, add whatever you think necessary, etc. Does that sound OK?

Hey Keren, I'm on diet at the moment, how long until I need to be sewn into a habit?? I should be ready in about 5 years time? Will be well into my 50's then - is that OK??? I will definitely have to practise the " **!!**!!?? Mr. Blunt (heavy breathing) ****!!!!???" thingy (will have it down to a fine art in 5 years time)

I might just add that I am not desperate for a part or anything!!! (happy to be a chambermaid, groom, flower seller, butler, I can even cook chips for the whole crew!!!)

Seriously though, the Historical aspect would be very educational, the costume's enviable, the scenery stunning and the overall "finished product" would be a series to equal anything we see on today's screen, afterall, it would appear that in Lady Ann & Wilfred's day, they were much less inhibited (behind closed doors!) - "anything goes!". Plus we would have the pleasure of seeing beautiful horses on our TV's.

Excellent idea!

As I say, this has been a dream of mine for a long time - and living in Nottinghamshire, I have ruthlessly used the 'Byron connection' to get publicity for the Arabian in the area!

I think I'd quite like a bit part as either Lady Yule or her daughter, since British film history was my degree thesis subject, and it was Lady Yule who invested money to get Pinewood Studios off the ground. And I think my Marimbah would make a good Pharoah - we've always said he was smart enough to be in movies

Marie Molly,

Hmmm...Let me guess...If you have owned him for more than 5 years...he started out as a nice looking gelding and has become more beautiful as years have passed to the point you wonder if it were really a wise decision to have gelded him? He should be an excellent athlete, compact, smooth and can do anything...sometimes wanting to do things his way more than yours. Also do you find his eyes have gotten bigger over time?

Kate in re Warda...Whose pedigree does she feature in? I've other bases that can be searched if you can share a bit more.

Hi ,KateFox ,to get back to your trotting thread - I understand the Russian considered a big
trot indicated a fast gallop so intensively bred for this trait, as they were into the racing.- When you think of Teeba"s siblings - Tawoos, Tibr, Tayseer, Taher et al - all big
movers,I feel sure you need not worry about his genetic strength to pass on his action!
Not forgeting the Crabbet movers either!!

I have only had him for 2 years, but you are spot on, he is turning into a fantastic endurance horse. He is compact, smooth and can do anything: loves his work. As for wanting to do things his way... You must know him personally! I have found myself asking him to do something and he will mutter, mutter, mutter... fighting all the way and not noticing when I let him know it's allright to do it his way now. And he has the sweetest eyes.

Thank you for your insight.

Marie

Thanks Nimlat! You're absolutely right, of course - thanks for reminding me. I was away from the horse world (in mourning for GLG) when most of those horses were around, but I've heard about their super movement!

Intrigued by what you say about why the Russians bred for the big trot! Most racing people here look at the walk, don't they? I mean, they consider that a good walk usually indicates a good gallop? Still, I'm glad the Russians had their own theories - I just love that elevated flying trot!

And maybe they were right about the trot-gallop correlation - they seem to breed some pretty good racehorses as well!
