How long before foaling do your mares bag up?, my mare is not due for 8 weeks but started dropping away at back end over last week and is now starting to bag up, i have always had them bag up first not together and normally within 4-6 weeks of foaling, otherwise mare is fine in every way but could this foal be early? though i clearly dont mean now lol

One of my mares dropped away at the back & baged up 2 months before she foaled, on the odd ocassion she even had lengthenling of her vulva. She foaled more or less on time with her last covering date. The other mare bagged very slightly only 3 weeks before and it would go down to normal size during the day when she was turned out and she gave NO indication that she was ready to foal even at 2am in the morning!!! |

Angie, every mare is different - some bag up long before their foaling date, some bag up just a couple of weeks before.
Don't panic, just keep your eye on her - exciting times. |

My mare too is due in the nexst 4-6 weeks. She is just starting to bag up. I have taken her rug off her tonight as she was very itchy, as were the others, after all that snow and then heavy rain, now the temperature has gone up I am not so worried. These are exciting times. Good luck Angie, know how you feel. Nicky |

good luck with the foaling when she comes. Our mare bagged up for 4 weeks before she foaled, and a few times she looked like she was about to foal waxing and all for weeks then sudenly she stopped no signs of foaling for a whole week then she just foaled out of the blue, but she was smack on time with our foaling date we set. |
