This is probably a long shot.. but worth i try..
I bought a chestnut Arab mare off of a friend of mine back in the summer who had bought her off of a dealer from Wareham, prior to that she apparently belonged to a lady in Ringwood. My vet said she is about 15 years old but she has no papers so i don't know anything about her breeding. She is 14.2hh and has one white sock on her near fore leg, people have said to me that she looks like a Crabbet Arab, i would love to know anything about her past or breeding.. she has a few white spots on her face and neck are these called bird catcher spots or something.. i think i read that somewhere.
I have put 2 pictures of her in the picture gallery under lovkll, please have a look and if you can help i would appreciate it x

| I have seen a filly with the same markings. If you look up ZS Stud Cornwall in your Google search you should see her.Your mare looks like a Crabbet bred horse,she's lovely. |

Happy New Year to you all!!
I had a look on the zs Arabian website and the markings on one of the foals is very similar, i can now see that mine does look like a crabbet Arab. (A little bit green to these Arab types)
My sister and i tried to ride her a couple of weeks ago as my friend said she had trouble tacking her up.. eg if girth done up too quickly she has been known to pull back and then just lay down on the floor. However when we tacked her up we done the girth up very slowly & gently, she flinched alot but was otherwise fine, we also found that you cannot mount from the ground because she flinched as soon as you put your foot in the stirup. Once mounted on her she is fine (However we only walked around the yard). When my friend got her she did have girth sores, this is why i would love to know anything about her past or breeding, i'm not worried if i can't ever ride her as i bought her partly because she is a great companion for my other arab mare.
I have put adverts in Your Horse magazine, Horse magazine & Horse & Rider with no replies, so any ideas on anything else i could try would be appreciated.

Hi Michelle,
We had an Arab that used to flinch badly when the girth was done up. I'm sure it was because of back problems (possibly sacroiliac ligament trouble or something similar that had been left undetected or treated). It may be a good idea to get a chiropractor or osteopath to check the mare since at 15 she could possibly have a number of good years' riding with you. She looks a really good dependable type but may have been in pain for quite a while. Good luck with her.. |

Hi Michelle
I'm glad you've had more response than what i did when i first owned her.
I also had a look at the stud in cornwall, the foal has same face marking as her, soo sweet.
I agree with you there aswell roseanne, i never had the mares back done as i really didn't own her long enough, michelle fell in love so she had her! LOL
Once tacked up i rode her, she was fine, but a pure bred is just not for me, i prefer pba's. Hope all others are ok, we'll have to go see the arab stallion for the girls, maybe sunday, i will try and get hold of owner |

| I can recommend someone, not from Southampton area but he does come down here. A total miracle worker in my opinion, he's done absolute wonders for my Boy and I certainly wouldnt use anyone else now! |

Hello Everyone
I contacted a Chiropractor over the weekend who came out to see Pheonix (my chestnut arab mare) today, he said that her pelvis was out and he put her pelvis and a few small bones back in along her spine (behind where the saddle would sit), he also said he did something to the sacroiliac ligaments... basically he poked, proded and pulled her about. You could see she was really uncomfortable in some areas but i'm so glad i've had this done as the farrier was also out today prior to the Chiroprator & could only trim Pheonix's front feet as she is very nervous with her back legs being touched (Not nasty at all), she finds it difficult picking them up. After the Chiropractor had done her back altho she wasn't keen to pick up her back legs she was able to do it!! Brilliant!
Chiropractor said she may have been in pain for a while & may even associate pain with picking up her back legs for a while. Bless her.
So thank you to Roseanne for mentioning getting her back checked as i think this has helped us alot!

Hiya its so nice to hear a happy end to a story.
Without putting you off i bought an arab mare from a friend who had part x from a bloke called Michael in Kent who had illegally sold her and she belonged to a lady called Donna at Java Stud. When i got her she was poor and i had a Chiropractor out to her which seemed she had the same problem her pelvis was out. She was a head shaker as well so i had to really go into her and still advertising now for anyone that knowes her becasue upon a flexion test i found out she had suffered a really bad injury to her rear pastern area and this courses her chake. Although she is not in pain i have to be careful with her and i have her on good suppliments and go easy with her. |

It worries me that someone might turn up one day & say the horse belongs to them, i've advertised her in different horse magazines & had no response. I'm sure that somebody somewhere must know somethink! But then i suppose if there is an old injury or something they might not want to get involved again. Hmm! i hope thats not the case..

| If she is papered have you tried to contact the ABS and write a letter to them. They wont give out names and address of previous owners but they can forward the letter and if the old owner wishes to reply they can? Unfortunatly i cannot do that as no papers came with my mare. |

No papers came with the mare, i tried when i owned her to contact AHS but they couldn't do anything without a name as there is soo many chestnut mare to look through, such a shame as she is a lovely are. Fingers crossed one day someone will recognise her, and be able to shed some lighton her history.

| Have you thought about going to seeing the dealer? maybe he may remeber her? what is it he specialises in? also have you thought about posting pictures in the local stables and saddlerys of that area? |

| Many years ago I rescued a mare without papers. After breeding 2 partbreds by a purebred stallion I was encouraged to try and find some papers. I wrote to all the studs around where she came from and I found her papers. It might be worth a try. Good luck. |

| The person i bought her from only had her 3 days, he only usually deals coloureds and cobs. I asked for the telephone number for her previous owner but he would never give it to me, i will try again next time i see him for you michelle, but all i know is that he bought her from a lady named Tina in Ringwood, Hampshire. I posted on another site, someone came up with a telephone number for a lady,but when i spoke to her it wasn't one that she had, so we continue to search. |

Thank you Rach, if you can get anymore information off the dealer it would be good or even give him my number to pass onto previous owner.
I'm going to Ringwood at the weekend & will put an advert up in the horse shop with her picture, hopfully someone may reconise her from the area, fingers crossed.

Hi,
I have a crabbet arab that has a really simular puzzle type blaze. He is 16 years old and also had the girth saddle problem. When I first started riding him he would learn back on his front legs and once he even layed down. I had his back etc checked and was told that it was to do with the thoratic vetebrae on arabs as there is less room for the girth. He has since grown out of the problem. Heres a pic of the markings

Hi, he was not breed at stud he was breed by Tamilla off this site. The marking seems to be quite strong in his breeding as his son Ramak (Sazzlepants arab) also had the marking when he was born - you can't see it now as hes gone grey!!
My boy is from the stallion Golden Cavalier (General Gold /Crystal Gold) and mare Natahlya (Nasib / Luda) I thinks the markings must come from mummies side !! |
