I bought her in 1994 as a 10 year old (poss older). We can trace her back to nr Andover, Kent - Goatacre farm (dealers) bought her from a family - out of a field in a village nr Andover - she was then thought to have been called Goldy - was very green.
Fly is a much loved part of our family & here for the remainer of her life!
Shes pigeoned toed, very fine coat, very fine silky mane & very thick tail. When younger her Arab trot was amazing - float - that horse had wings!! & she was amazingly fast as well! Shes about 14.3h.
We tried to breed from her twice - but she twinned both time - so was she a twin herself - or from a family of twins??
I would dearly love to find out who she is - prob impossible - but who knows?!

Judith, don't think this will help but Andover is in Hampshire not Kent. Goatacre Farm were well known dealers so hopefully someone can help.

Hi Marlyn - thankyou - she was an amazing colour when younger - now shes lots of white flecks!
Vera - well I knew it was somewhere down south! I spoke to Goatacre years ago & that was all they could tell me - they bought her without papers - I wonder if her breeder didn't bother to register her because of her turned in front feet (which never caused her a problem!)?
I always wondered about her breeding?

She's beautiful, what a lovely colour! There must be some way of tracking her, do you know which village near Andover? Are there any Arab breeders in that area that you could perhaps contact? Good luck! |

Hi Judith, I bought my first mare in much the same way as you. I wrote to all the studs around where sh came from and had a reply from a lady who put me in touch with the lady who had her papers. The rest is history. It might be worth trying.
She reminds of someone but I cannot put my finger on who it is.
Good luck Pauline |

Dear Judith The only breeders from that area that immediately spring to mind are the Moynes at Biddesden and Rita Justice who used to live near Grately. Rita's stallion was Ringing Echo (who was grey) but his sire was Ringing Gold who was a very bright metallic chestnut - the colour could have skipped a generation? I can't give you any more help than that but perhaps someone else will remember Rita and her horses better than I do!
Happy Christmas

Jan - thanks! Fly is a metallic chestnut - unusual - but boy it shines in the sun!!!
Anyone know the folk Jan has mentioned???
I'm sure she was from good stock - her grace, movement (even as an oldie!) speaks volumes!!
I used to do many miles ( up to a hundred miles a week) hacking round the Herefordshire county side on her - we grew to be the best of friends who knew other thoughts........amazing!!!
Fly is most certainly the "horse" of my lifetime! Shes been retired now for many years.

Hi Judith, Now I have seen her head she is almost the image of my new mare who is by Nashaal (Ahmoun x Nyala of Melchet)and out of Roxyana (Blue Grotto x Bint Roxana). I would say this could be Rita Justice type breeding and she is still around that area. Her phone number is probably in my old stud books.
I would give you her number but my e.mail is not working. |

Hi Judith,
I am desperately trying to find a picture of a little mare who is my new mare's niece by Bin Rimini. There has been something niggling at me about this mare of yours. Ifn it is Nissa (Bin Rimini x Roxina Gold) Then she would have won a 40 mile ER some years ago at Salisbury.
She is so like Roxaana that it may just be her. We haven't heard anything of her for about 11 years or more.
I shall keep on searching.

Hi Pauline
I've just been checking my records & see that Fly came to Herefordshire in 1990 - when Goatacre farm sold her in Hereford Horse market (they had just purchased her from nr Andover). I know her history from 1990 to 94 when I bought her. She was vetted in 1990 & estimated to be a six year old (? I think shes prob older).

Judith, I have been in touch with Nissa's breeder and she is also looking for her photos. If it is Nissa she was born in 1983 at Chobham in Surrey. Nissa lived with my fillies, hjer half sisters, for about 1 year. I will keep looking for those photos. |

Pauline - Fly is VERY toed in infront (both feet) - I'm sure she would have been the same as a youngster - would be very easy for her breeder to remember I think! Although its never, ever stopped her moving so amazingly - & boy she can still move - her amazing "floating" trot still has to be seen to be believed Today when we let them into a new bit of the field she led the way - galloping then doing her "airs above the ground" trot & the other mares floundered in her wake!!! For an old girl - shes AMAZING & puts the youngsters to shame |

I am going to show the photos of Fly to another breeder as I am convionced that she is somehow related to my mare. They are like two peas in a pod. I think the common denominator is probably Roxanya or it could be the Ahmoun which would rule out Nissa but bring in a few more possibilities.
This may take a while as she is not on the internet but I am still trying.
Take care Pauline |
