maybe in some arabs the black is an exceptionally dark chestnut and that the plum with a lighter mane and tail is somehow a dilution of this. If only we could cross a black arab with a cremello and get a black body with cream mane and tail ( think pint of Guiness), but life aint that simple!

The job was done by Diane and owner of the mare, Susan I just buy her, but thank you for the kind words. Maybe you should have a look at the mare behind Martini. I have no luck to find any informations about her or pictures. Diane has another mare when I was there also very dark called Mayfly, off course I can´t remember the pedigree but can try to look it up. The very dark red with flaxen mane also are in away in the Haflingers as in that area there are a breed called Noriker, who ofen has that colour, nearly black with flaxen mane. OK Keren of you go to Denmark and steel my horse I go to England and steel some crabbets as there are so many I could like to have. Gunni. Just find Mayfly parents El Sharluke x Rushmere´s Fire Fly( Royal Fire x Seriyah ). Have you any idea where Susan is and if she is still breeding ??????

Gunni, like Keren I’m pleased you live in Denmark or I’d be sneaking over with a horsebox too!
Keren, Amboseli does leap out of the page but then so too does El Sharluke himself who was a very rich liver chestnut, Sahara Duke ‘ditto’ (with an almost red mane), Sengoran (who if I remember rightly was dark chestnut), Ludo who sired dark livers often with blonde manes and tails and of course Taqah himself (liver chestnut).
I know I have a good description of the ‘plum’ colour somewhere but can I find it?! However, Lady W in the AA does list it as “Dark (almost purple) chestnut with a silver, golden or nearly white mane and tail is a good colour and runs in the Rodan strain of endurance blood.” (page 246)
Caroline
Jane, sorry we have wandered off course a bit but I know you won’t mind too much!
