I know this is a quiz room but i would love to hear some horsey poems, i can never get enough of them, i will start with my favourite, Michelle xxx
The Horse by Ronald Duncan Where in this wide world can man find nobility without pride, Friendship without envy Or beauty without vanity? Here, where grace is served with muscle And strength by gentleness confined He serves without servility, he has fought without enmity There is nothing so powerfull, nothing less violent, There is nothing so quick, nothing more patient England's past has been borne on his back All our history is his industry We are his heirs, he is our inheritance

THE HORSEMAN'S PRAYER
Dearest God in heaven. Give me the strength to guide my horse. Make my hands soft and my head clear. Let my horse understand me and I him. My heart you have blessed with a special love of these animals, let me never lose sight of it. My soul you have gifted with a deep need for them, let that need never lessen. Always let my breath catch as the sun gleams on an elegant head. Always may my throat tighten at the sound of a gentle nicker. Let the scent of fresh hay and a new bag of grain always be sweet to me. Let the warm touch of a warm nose on my hand always bring a smile. I adore the joy of a warm day on the farm. The grace and splendor of a running horse, the thunder of its hooves makes my eyes burn and my heart soar, let it always be so. Dearest God grant me patience, for horses are harnessed wind and wind can be flighty. Let me not frighten or harm them, instead show me ways to understand them. Above all, Dear God, fill my life with them. When I pass from this world, send my soul to no heaven without them. For this love you have given me graces my existence and I shall cherish it and praise You for it for all time.

I love this topic.. and over the years have collected a number, this one below is not a poem as such.. the filly foal had to be an Arabian..LOL..now hows that for a one track mind..lol.
.................... When God created the earth, the horse's destiny was an Eden of marshes and swamps-a paradise of fragrance, sound and color-inhabited by the most exotic of plants and creatures. However, here all was not peaceful. Mares and foals were prayed upon by saber-toothed tigers and other mighty hunters, including man who in the eye of the herd stallion aroused both fear and anger. As he grew in size and evolved from an eater of leaves to one of grass, the horse's legs became tall and strong enough to carry him out of the low wetlands and onto the steppes. Here, his new speed allowed him to survive in a world of predators, among the most savage and dangerous of which was man. At what time in prehistory the eye of some human saw horses as something other than food and clothing, we do not know. But fortunately for both man and beast it did occur in an adventure that would permanently and dramatically alter the history of the planet.
The youth's eyes were then on the filly foal and on it alone. With her capture the story of mankind would change in an instant and forever. - Trajan Tennent |

I wrote a poem for my little colt who died after a nasty bout of colic, it went something like this POEM FOR SI SI' Fly away my little one, your lifes journey had just begun, you could have been a shining star, you could have carried someone far, you could have sown you precious seed, Arab history to concede, for such beauty there was a place, now you fly beyond time and space, beyond the planets, beyond the stars, beyond this cruel world of ours, perhaps you were too good for this, but your goodness they will not miss, nor ever watch your children grow, just scattered ashes left to throw, a tear stained face is left to dry, and all I can whisper is ...... goodbye. |

I love this poem, entitled " The Ghost Stallion "- scindian Overlord.I hope his family don't mind me putting this on here as this made me cry. Bright sparkling waterfall deeplimped pools, Your beauty was hidden by winters so cruel, You were born in the sunshine, did you just know- or prey? That the sun would return and bring new life someday.
Through the long winters tied to a bar, your mind must have wandered and wandered afar, back through the years to the sunshine of love, when its warmth held you close, yet free as a dove.
Oh! child of nature her gifts you possess, no thought of vengeance or unhappiness, but forward and upwardlike a symbol of peace, like a beautiful bird uncaged and released,
Now all your sufferings ended at last, you bring joy, like a story from the long distant past, how humble i feel when i look in your face, What a world this would be if we all had your grace.
Silken mane flowing and tail on the wind, Big dark eyes shining, you are loved my friend, When the world sees your beauty, their hearts you will win,and I'll whisper with pride " i once sat on him."
I think its because it reminds me of my own boy who is white grey with huge black eyes, and as he's only 3and a half y o im the only one who has had the honour of riding him,and my friend calls " the fairy tale horse ...."
