Hi everybody. I am new to this forum. I have just bought a 5 month old pure Arab foal. His registered name is Flintstone, his Dam is Frederika (AHSB*25393)and his Sire is Rahjeel Eastern Promise (AHSB *18050). He is a grey (currently bay). I have a couple of questions that one of you good people might be able to answer please: How long does it take for him to turn grey? Can I change his registered name?

Hi
Thank you for replying. I saw somewhere on an Arabian web site that names can be changed if they have not yet been entered into the stud book. I wanted to change his name to something a bit more traditional, but never mind.

Welcome Tanya,
Good Luck with your baby, dont worry about names, I had the most elegent, kind , clever irish setter bitch called (wait for it) Connomar Caution, her sisters were called things like Camelia, Columbine, Crimson, and I got Caution ........
She was the pick of the bunch!!! so dont worry

HI and welcome, # You CAN change the name if a) u have the breeders permission (they would have to give written permission or telephone the AHS best to put it in writing) , and B) if it is before december 31st in the year of birth. I think the name is ok.If it was something like Daisy do gooder or something like that fair enough, but the present name is acceptable - there are far worse.. I do understand tho having experienced a name I really couldnt live with.I had it changed so I know it can be done, but only once. Happy days are ahead of you Im sure either way.Enjoy your foal.

Thanks, Acorn Arabians. I will have to do some serious "creeping" around the breeder. I don't think she will be too offended. She bought the Arab mare already in foal. She has also now sold the mare. The pedigree is Fantasy Arabians. They are from Crabbett bloodlines, I am told. I just don't like the name Flintstone.....all can I think of is that big oaf of a man with a block head!!! Not at all like my elegant little man, whose stable name is Sultan. However, the lady chose his name as he is to look like the colour of the house they live in, which was flint-coloured stone!

Is that a picture of him?He looks a poppet.Very plain headed as modern show standards go but a kind eye - which from a rider's point of view is what matters.Good body - good heart. |

Hi Cass, He is rather plain, as Arabs go, I agree, but he's sooo affectionate. His head isn't as dished as the ones portrayed on web sites. Is this common in Crabbet lines? I haven't done any showing ever, neither do I ride (my daughter did, until discovery of boys, that is)!! I just bought him as a friend to keep for a few years. He has a companion pony aswell.

You never know what you will end up with...
The foal to die for whose head turns into a bucket...the ugly duckling who turns into the swan. Its a gamble , says she who with beloved turned down a cheep 'orse 'cos it was nout to talk about. Only for him to win the worlds with it some years later...
Enjoy your neddies and forget the opinions of others after all had you gone out to check with everyone before you went shopping the shop would have been shut by the time you got there.
There are far far worse names out there and you don't actually hear Wilmar being yelled everytime you go down the field. Have fun.

The word 'plain' was inappropriate there without enclosures - 'Koheilan' would have been more appropriate. My apologies. The 'Saqlawi' head type (extreme dish) is more common than not in Crabbet lines in my experience but the extreme type is (with notable exceptions) a must for top level showing. But,you don't ride the head - and all horses are grey in the dark! Also as Pip so rightly says, they change an awful lot as they grow - I've no doubt he'll 'dry out' in time - he does have a lovely little 'teacup' muzzle too. |

Hi
Thank you for your replies. I think that because the photos are so small, it's hard to see what he's really like. If you are interested, he can be seen on the following website, on far left of page, click the letter S and then click on Spritzer-1964. http://groups.msn.com/upsaddle2 As I'm not really into showing, having never done any, I was only interested in his temperament. I think this comes from taking in rescues over the past few years. I do appreciate beauty, though and I can understand how all you Arabian loves get hooked. They are truly the most beautiful equines. I have owned three part-breds and Sultan is my first pure bred.
