Yep but rather than bbq how about cheese, nibbles etc, saves someone having to be stuck by the bbq cooking it!! or even something like a big pot of chilli that could be just sitting simmering for folk to help themselves. |

Sorry folks - but you will have to count me out this year, (it is my birthday on the Friday Night, and Nigel is threatening to take me out for a Meal)
I have "promissed" not to take on any "organising" this year.
So its over to you lot! |

I like the idea of a big pot of chilli! we will have to ask admin if they will come this year? ( tickets only?) says something about our party when other's want to join us though! |

Perhaps there should be an AL party one night and an AHS one the other, so people can enjoy a barbie (or chilli!) and a few beers and if they can't get to one, they may be able to get to the other. People get to know each other and the big Arab community gets better and better. |

The facts:
Even though I offered to help, I did not expect to have to deal with the AHS on the location of where the barbecue was to be held on the showground and have to reassure them that there would be no problem and that everything would be under control.
I actually don't think that there were that many gate crashers until quite late but I reckon there were 200 AL people there. The problem of the AL badges not being handed out as organised caused a further problem.
The thing is that there were so few AL people actually doing any work or giving any help, they just sat there and drank and ate after some of them delivering what they had promised.
To put up the marquee initially that Jayne provided free of charge, a max of 10 people were there. For the barbecue, there were eventually the same number of people cooking; there were many complaints about how late the food was being cooked and therefore unavailable, and the smoke being blown in their faces though the barbecues had been initially sited to avoid this but the wind changed , these people sitting on their btms. Too, many promised items and food did not appear.
To take the marquee down at 6.30 a.m. the next morning, there were 5 of us to take it down and pack it, and we also had to pick up the rubbish left on the barbecue site too.
Yes, I think it was a really great evening but whoever takes it on, it won't be me.
I am openly posting this to let everyone know what really happened though I phoned Paula and Sean after the barbecue to let them know.

Quite a number of people turned up with NO food OR drink. The BBQ's we bought were £20 AND we brought 6 bottles of wine and several other things like napkins etc that we had left over from BBQ's at home. When some people turned up with VERY little food or NOTHING at all its hardly fair for these spongers fill their faces is it .
John and I helped to put the Marquee up and we stayed behind and picked up as much rubbish, empties etc as we could see. The marquee was already packed away in the morning by the time were got there (did you get any sleep Jayne and Jane!)
Agree with Jane, not many volunteers to help but plenty of people to moan.
One girl sat on a table, which of course was only a pasting table so it broke. You should have heard her kick off on one !!!! She demanding to know who was organising this 'party', WHO was in charge etc!!!
IF we have another there needs to be a lot more offers of help etc. And Jane PLEASE ask Babu (?) to make bean salad again. Tried to make it but it wasn't the same!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
Yes a lot of work by a few, so others could moan and drink, I had and still have all the spare badges that Paula kindly made, but no one asked for one.
Jane, I too didn’t see too many gate crashers, but then the one and only Buffalo Bill entertained Marilyn, Peter and I and that was worth £10.
Maybe a visit to the local pub this time, they do the work, we buy our own food and drink, have a good night and all go to our beds.
A BIG THANK YOU to all who worked for US last year, from me
Regards
Bob
