We have a lady who comes to our yard - she is BHSAI and she charges £20 per hour. Good, knowledgeable instructress. My daughter is home tonight for weekend, I'll ask her what Hartpury charge for different instructors etc. |

Well our friend is a bhs instructer(also teacher for all bhs stages), and we get lesson up at her place(only up road and have no paddock) and she only takes 10 for hour and half, only cause we insist we pay. also go up and use her paddock freely., It always help when someones on the ground because they can see things you can't my sister and I give each other lessons as the horse can feel ok but look awful or vice versa, it takes someone on the ground. We have always said that if we have an indoor we will have mirrors on the wall, makes schooling a whole load easier. |

£45 seems expensive to me. I pay £20 and the lesson time varies on how we are getting on. My instructor also rides my horse as she is teaching her to jump as I'm not very good! |

I used to pay £20 per hour for a private lesson with a reputable teacher who used to travel out to my yard. Personally i think what you pay is quite expensive but if he is good and you feel you are both learning thats what counts. |

I think you will find that insurance will be a major factor as to how much you pay per lesson.

Angie, around where I live in East Sussex the prices vary tremendously, from £20 per hour to £45-£50 per hour. I think it depends very much how well known the instructor is as well. Those around here who are out competing and are successful do charge a lot more than the riding stable instructors or those who advertise in the horse sections of local papers. Nicky |

A few years ago I was paying £8.00 per hour for horse to be hacked and schooled but said lady did keep fees down a bit as she's been riding him for over a year. I think the current price is about £10.00 per half hour for lessons. |

i think that people have to remember that you get what you pay for. some people seem to know what they are taking about but don't have any real understanding of it. qualifications also mean nothing!! i know ii's how know next to nothing about what really needs to be said for people to really understand what they are doing. £40 is what you should expect to pay for someone who really knows what they are taking about. i used to charge alot less, but paid more for someone to watch me from the floor and give pointers on what things looked like from down there. that person told me i was daft for under selling myself. now i don't want this to sound like an advert, and it's not!! but i charge £30 per session for children, £40 for adults and £50 for me to school the horse. i have paid £50 per session for real classical instruction and would rather pay that once every 2 weeks or even once a month than pay less every wekk from someone who maybe can't do the job. that's not to say that anyone on here who does pay less has a bad intructor, i'm not saying that. just that you have to make sure that you are getting what you pay for! |

My mum pays £30 for a pyramid trainer from Berwick, for 45mins including cost of hiring indoor school. The lassie i'm about to start lessons with is also £30 for 45mins, inc. school, coming up from Sheffield and is a GP rider and North BD region BYRDS rep. And she's lovley! Having said that, last time my 'local' instructor came to us she was £0 for 45 mins, then travelling on top! Value for money?! Kath |
