Thanks!

most of the stables there have some shavings in them, be prepared and take shavings as some stables arent the best. Have a great time x |

Stables aren't the best??? Thats putting it mildly gemma
They are DISGUSTING!! I hope they have cleaned them out since last year!! Dirty deep litter bedding is what we had to contend with and it wasn't just a few inches deep either, the horses had to step up to go into the stable, looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a year
Not the best in my opinion, actually they were the worst stables I stayed in last show season but you never know, maybe David Broome has had a tidy up?
The show itself was really nice, VERY long walk to the ridden ring from the stables which is hard work if you are a groom and carrying everything I am sure you will enjoy it Lauren, last bit of advice, take plenty of warm and waterproof clothes

hiya, thanks for your advice everyone i have never stayed overnight at the show before - last time i drove up on the day which was a few years ago now!
we dont have a lot of space for 'stuff' so do you think one bale is going to be enough? not sure what to do now , because if the stables are that pooey and they have cleaned them out maybe one bale isnt enough!!! help! i am really excited but nervous at the same time..! |

You could give the David Broome Equestrian Centre a call to see if the stables are still 'deep littered' if they are you will probably get away with one bale between two, but if they have cleaned them you will need 2 bales each horse minimum.
You could also see if they sell shavings on site and if so how much, might be cheaper (and easier if you have no spare space) to get it there but I doubt it.
Good luck this weekend, I am sure you will have a great time.

There is a Countrywide store in Chepstow, about 10 mins away from the show ground. You could buy shavings etc after you've dropped off the horses. Think they're open 'til 5.30pm. Have a great day. |

Stabling at Wales and West
Every exhibitor has to muck out their stable on leaving so the stables are only as good as the last occupant. David Broome's staff do muck out the ones left dirty hence the fine for not mucking out as I am charged. As to whether to bring bedding it really is up to you but it must be shavings no straw allowed on the showground. At least most of them have bedding in them unlike most shows where you are met with a concrete or mud base with only one bale of straw to make a bed or worst still an unmucked out stable that has been occupied for the previous two or three days which happens at most county shows.

Thanks! I'd forgotten about the Countrywide store being close by, so if we get stuck at least we've got a fall back option!
Mandy - how is it ALWAYS so cold there?! We're camping too so I think we'll need the thermals...
Can't wait!! |
